"The valkyries' flock from afar she beholds,
Ready to ride to the realm of men:
Skuld held her shield, Skogul likewise,
Guth, Hild, Gondul, and Geirskogul:
For thus are hight Herjan's maidens,
Ready to ride o'er reddened battlefields."

Morale All German units are Elite. All British vehicles are Veteran. All British infantry units are Elite
Terrain and Setup This encounter will take place on a small, rocky islet in the cold, dark waters of the North Sea. The Germans should set up within a base composed of several barracks buildings, guardhouses, machine shops, and fuel tanks. A dock with several small boats should be placed on the shore. 2-3 MU around the edge of the map should be water. The island should be treeless, forbidding place, made up of hills, pits, and rough terrain. The landscape may also be littered with shot-up hulks from earlier training missions conducted by the Kriegsmadchen.Only the German base area should have a large proportion of clear terrain. The British units should begin the game in four large landing craft which have just hit the beach and dropped their ramps. These may be placed at any point on the island's perimeter- it is up to the British player to decide whether or not to split his forces. All German units should be placed within the confines of their base. As the game begins, the British have achieved near-surprise, but the War Maidens are jumping into their cockpits and heating up their machines. Allow the British a free movement, then allow the German infantry a movement, and then begin rolling for initiative as per usual. All vehicles involved in this scenario have the Amphibious perk |
British intelligence has received disturbing information from several sources indicating that the Wehrmacht has established a small unit of fanatic Kampferpilots at a training base off the coast of Norway. The unit is supposedly testing new varieties of amphibious walkers, to be used in suicide missions or a repeat of the daring Ramsgate assault. What's worse, if MI-6 is to believe its agents, the unit is composed entirely of women... women hand-picked by Adolf Hitler to be the spearhead of an army guided by ancient Teutonic prophecies into a new age of victory.
The British place little stock in Hitler's mystical obsessions, but they can ill-afford to let such a unit out of the cradle and onto the field of battle. The dread footfall of the Fallschirmjagerand the Waffen-SSacross the globe is symptomatic of the lethal efficiency of Germany's elite units. As ungentlemanly as it seems, this little cabal of Kriegsmadchen("War Maidens") is going to have to be dealt with... by force of arms. The task has been assigned to No. 4 Commando, who feel that they have not had adequate time to train with their new complement of modified walkers. As always, in war time is on no-one's side...
This encounter is High Mission Priority for both sides.
The British objective is to land on the island, under fire if necessary, and put an end to the so-called "Kriegsmadchen." A mixed force of walkers and battle-hardened infantry has been assigned to the mission. All the German forces on the island are to be destroyed or captured. If possible, the base is to be ransacked for intelligence materials and then fired, but high command is willing to settle for the eradication of Hitler's "Valkyries" as a fighting force.
The German objective is for the exhaustingly-trained but still-untested War Maidens to take to the cockpits of their fighting machines and sweep the British back into the sea. Unbeknownst to the British, a small support unit of veteran infantry from the French and Polish campaigns is bivouacked on the island to provide tactical instruction, and will fight beside the "Kriegsmadchen."
That Lovely North Sea Weather
At the beginning of Turn 3, roll a single die. On a roll of 3-4, a Light Rain begins. On a roll of 5-6, that Light Rain begins and turns into a Heavy Rain on Turn 4.
British Reinforcements
The British B Section is composed of superior walkers, but the skill advantage of the War Maidens might be unbalancing under certain circumstances. If both players agree, the British may hold a fifth landing craft in reserve containing:
All of these units are Elite, and may land and disembark at the beginning of Turn 5.
Awww, c'mon. You know you love it. Teutonic warrior women... cheesy, but compelling. Of course, the Valkyries of legend never took part in actual combat, merely circling over the battlefields and choosing those who would feast with Odin in the glory of Valhalla. There's something awesomely evocative in their names, and those who enjoy customizing their pewter could do much worse than to create a little unit of stylized warrior-maiden Kampfer. I would recommend a black raven on a white field as a unit insignia.
This scenario is going to be one heck of a shoot-em-up with so many overqualified units in such close proximity. Once I've taught my girlfriend enough about the ropes of GK, I'll put her in charge of the Kriegsmadchen and have a knock-down, drag-out Battle of the Chromosomes.
