    Arrakis.

    Dune.

    Desert Planet.

It is a generation before the coming of the Atreides.

A prophet has risen among the Fremen, an ecologist of the Empire who sees a lush and verdant paradise where now the waterless desert alone holds sway. Pardot Kynes has shared his vision with the men and women of Sietch Tabr, and they have embraced it. The ecological transformation, conducted with water stolen drop by drop from the harsh winds of Dune, has begun. But Kynes' vision must spread to all the Fremen on Dune if it is to bear fruit. The troop of Sietch Tabr says that Kynes is touched by God... but other tribes are not so certain.

Azir, the Wolf of Tuono, is the most feared of all the Fremen Naibs. A warrior of legendary ferocity, he has lost four wives and four sons to the hated Harkonnens. He and his bitter troop argue that now is the time for a great union of the tribes, a union that will drive the Harkonnens from Arrakis forever. To the warriors of Sietch Tuono-Timmin, Kynes is an alien madman, a needless distraction, and the time has come for the sands of Dune to drink the blood of House Harkonnen. Nothing else matters.

A convocation of tribal elders has been called at Red Wall Sietch. There, before the Naibs of the neutral tribes, the visionaries of Tabr and the vengeful of Timmin must argue their points. Time is short, and there is much to be done. Once the Fremen are decided on a course of action, they will have greater plans to make. Will the sands of Dune blossom with a fragile dream... or will a million Fremen warriors put their knives to the throat of the Imperium?

Taqwa: The Price of Freedom is a live-action roleplaying game set in the universe of Dune, created by science fiction writer Frank Herbert. Taqwa is an in-depth, costume-heavy game of negotiation, philosophy, and tension. While some extrapolations have been made from the source material, this game in its entirety is based only on those Dune-related works directly written or authorized by Herbert while he was alive. The events and chronology of the "prequel" trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert are not respected herein.

Taqwa will be run in St. Paul, Minnesota in November, 2001, in two parts.
