The band was formed back in 2003 by Apostolos Papapostolou, an economist by profession, holder of a postgraduate title in Political Science by Essex University, England. Apostolos was born in 1969 and is a happily married father of two kids, a two years old girl and a new-born boy. He is successfully practicing his day-job as a Quantity Surveyor & Estimator in the Construction industry, both locally (Greece) and overseas (U.K., France, Cyprus and Kuwait).
Apostolos started playing the guitar since the age of seven. He took musical courses until the age of twelve, then quit and started playing Beatles’ songs. He got strongly influenced by American folk music and classic rock sounds. His first live performance was back in 1986. He discovered ‘’black’’ music about a decade ago and he realized that all these styles would never exist unless the blues weren’t there. He joined his first blues band as a rhythm guitarist in 1999 and occasionally appeared in several local live music venues. Through hard studio rehearsal work with peers during the last years, he got a grasp of the basic musical playing techniques and arrangement principles of soul music. He has appeared in many local music venues with the band as well as his previous ones. Being the band's founder, he has finally realized his ''big band'' vision. Finding and matching with the right musicians was not an easy task at all. After many ups and downs, SoulSilkTM now has a five member core and occasionally, up-to four more guest musicians appear on the rehearsals, recordings and on stage when the band goes live about twice a month. The band's repertoire consists of Apostolos original songs only. They are currently working on about 20 more of his compositions.
Antony is a 26 years old industrial designer. He is an extremely talented lead guitarist with multiple musical ideas and a huge briefcase of killer solos. He has great blues influences traced down to Robert Johnson, Son House and southern rock sounds. He has a considerble appreciation of the blues and the soul. He's a moderate guy who prefers to speak with his music...
Daniel is 28 years old and was born in France. He's also a very devoted bass player with a sound grasp of musical theory and a mellow but straight tone.
Georgie is 24 years old and has been playing the drums since the age of fifteen. He has attended accredited local music schools and has been close to the local drums teaching elite. He has made way to many live stage and TV appearances with many groups. He loves the soul and knows what a "rhythm section" is all about. He plays the drums with respect to the masters of the groove!
Alex is 30 years old and a happily married civil engineer. He's now adding delicate hammond organ and piano sounds to the songs. He is ''colouring'' them literally playing single handingly adhering to the genres' philosophy.
Evelyn is 27 years old and is an english teacher with a distinctive irish accent! She has added her attractive vocal and improvisation abilities to SoulSilk's repertoire. She's a natural born vocalist and definitely has her own vocal style with many influences from the great ladies of the blues and soul music...
Antony ages 36 and is a professional saxophonist, appearing as a guest musician. He is liaised with the local musical world and has been hired occasionally to record local well known artists' works. He is also affiliated with the city Symphonic Orchestra and he manages his own experimental jazzy band.
Tass is 34 years old and appears as a guest musician. He is a professional trumpeter and a member of the local Philharmonic. He also a music teacher.
With all this potential, the band's near future musical plans include recording, getting exposure of the songs as well as getting in touch with local and international recording companies, publishers and radio stations. Their short term aim is keep on appearing in local medium sized venues and above all, playing good original music with respect to the masters!
Photogallery CD Release What we do Sounds Gallery Note: George Batarias has appeared in the bass during the demo CD's recordings. He has also contributed in the mastering of the same recording.
