Thinkers

The Thinkers are a psionic superentity, a network of Guild minds. Used as a tool for communication, research and security, the Thinkers are one of the most useful tools available to Guild personnel. In exchange for a permanent connection to the Thinkers, Guild personnel allow the Thinkers to "borrow" unused mental potential, thus increasing the abilities of the Thinkers with every new addition.

Communication via the Thinkers occurs at a near-instantaneous rate, allowing willing participants to exchange mental images and notes, and at higher levels of ability actually converse. Such communication can always be ignored or blocked on request from all or specific senders, and people who abuse this ability lose the privilege of it.

The Thinkers greatly increase research speeds through two methods: Data dump and Creative Computational Cycles (CCCs). A researcher using Data Dump can request information on a subject and have the relevant resources immediately delivered to short term memory. The rate at which this information is processed and retained is dependent on the abilities of the individual mind, though can be refined through the use of a Concentration Cell. CCCs are the ability to pose a new problem to the Thinkers, and have the contemplation of it occur on a much larger scale through the use of several minds worth of capacity, following several simultaneous potential pathways toward various hypothetical solutions, all orchestrated by the Thinkers. In this way, solutions for difficult problems take much less time to accomplish, and research thus benefits.

For security purposes, the Thinkers can be authorized access to truthsense and sometimes even mind reading (though there are strict prohibitions to it) of connected persons. As well, passive Office scans of unconnected visitors also occurs on a regular basis, and potential threats are analysed (Surface thoughts read, high state emotions flagged.)
