-The American Staffordshire Terrier was Bred in England and Ireland. -The First Stafforsdshire Terriers came to America as early as 1870. There they evolved into two seperate breeds. - The American Pit Bull Terrier breed was the first registered by the United Kennel Club in 1898, and the non-fighting dogs eventually gained recognition with the American Kennel Club, under their British name, Staffordshire Terrier, in 1936. -The American Staffordshire Terrier is a versatile dog. They make excellent companions, natural guard dogs, and adapt well in many different lifestyles. They have excelled in obedience, agility and tracking. They are understanding and gentle with children. Stafs seem to realize the limitations of young ones, yet absorb rough play without resentment. Keep in mind, that they need obedience training and proper socialization right from the start.
