If You Run Over A Child Next To Corn In Nebraska, Leave Him There and Move On!
As the title suggests, the story that is being reviewed today is Stephen King's "Children of the Corn." I must admit that I saw the movie WAY before I read the short story, so I was disappointed when the story just ended after the death of the two people. This is not to say that Stephen King is not a genius, because he is and I own more of his books than other author that I read in the genre of horror/supernatural. I just realized how much was added to the movie that wasn't in the cleverly crafted short story.
The best part to me was when Vicki found a cross made out of cornhusks with the corncob Christ. Now I don't know about anyone else, but if I found a cross made out of cornhusks in a deserted town, I would get the hell out of there! But NO! Our brave and stupid man decides to stay and they both die! This was the best part because it was a clear indication that if they didn't leave, something bad was going to happen. Also, I thought that a cross made out of cornhusks was very intriguing as well as pretty creative in an evil sort of way. The other part of the story that I like was the last part when Burt finds Vicky tied to a cross and see that she has no eyes. It was sad, but at the same time, this idiot finally realized that he should have gone to the next town instead of Gatlin. It's one of those 'I told you so' moments, when all you can do is laugh at the idiotic man for being so stupid. Listen up men, for what your women are telling you is very important!
If Stephen King was trying to prove how stubborn some men can be, he certainly succeeded! I did like the story a lot, I may even go rent the movie again. Stephen King is truly a genius of the genre and I hope to be like him someday. It has always been my dream to be the next Stephen King (I mean it's about time a woman became master of the horror genre!). This story, heck even the whole book, even every book the man has written should be read by all for a great horror experience!
