Dracula Review
I have to admit that this is the first book for supernatural literature that I could not get into no matter how hard I tried. Every time I started to read it and Harker would describe his journey on the train, I fell asleep. I had been told that once a reader gets past a few chapters, the book becomes "un-put-down-able." If I could just get past those chapters, maybe I would find out if there is any truth in what they told me.
I truly hate it in class when we discuss Dracula and I can't say anything because I haven't read the book. I just can't get past the first few chapters, because Harker bores me to sleep talking about the train or the division of population in Transylvania (Saxons in the south, Szekelys in the East and North, etc). What pains me even more is that I loved "Dracula's Guest" and I felt that if the book is anything like it, I would love it! But alas, I cannot seem to get into Dracula. In the next couple of days, I am going to seriously sit down and read Dracula (though I may have to take a Vivarin first). I feel that if I could get past the first few pages, the book would read "un-put-down-able" velocity and I would be entranced to read it until the end of the book. The more I hear about it in class, the more I am convinced that it really is a great book, if I could just get into it. This is really unusual for a book connoisseur like myself, especially books in the horror genre that I absolutely love to read!
My opinion on Dracula, is that it is a book to be experienced, even though I haven't experienced it yet. I hope to have it read for after the Mardi Gras Holiday, or hopefully earlier than that so that I can participate in class discussion, which I love to do anyway. I am sure that it is a great novel, if I could just read it without falling asleep!
