Saturday's gig is cancelled due to the injury of a Farside member. Played a low-key gig at some Church Hall in Sutton, we got paid for it though and that money is going towards a CD we will be making next month!yAY!!!
01/06/02 The new State Drummist will be Mr Dave Loffman, who is also in Farlow (download their stuff here). 29th June at the Old Railway is the next stop for the State Shagwagon, they will be supporting Farside so mark it down in your diary's y'all.
26/05/02 Last's nights gig at Scruffy Murphies
was a disaster for all sorts of reasons. A huge thanks to everyone who turned
out though. Also State Of The Nation have parted company with drummer Si. Things
hadn't been working out as well as hoped but the band would like to thank Si
for being a top bloke and a top drummer and wish him all the best for the future.
Also it seems unlikely that Drew will be rehersing again, thanks to him for
sparing us his time... 07/05/02 A new batch of songs are being written
including 'Rubber Dice', 'Soaking Dry', 'Wishes' and 'Summer Alone'. They're looking
pretty good at the moment... 23/03/02 State are currently in the process
of trying to organise a gig with Farside either at the Academy 2 or the Irish
Centre. Also the band are considering adding a sampler to their ranks, Si's
freind Drew will be jamming with State on Friday with the possabilty of becomming
a member. 09/03/02 Last nite State played xls in the
company of many a punk band. We didn't belong there and were put at the end
so it was a bit of a joke really. But in true punk rock fashion we played one
and a half songs with horribly mutilated untuned guitars and a mess of feedback
at the end. *sniff*sniff* it was beautiful.... 20/02/02 Another gig has been lined up for
Friday. Today State recorded a low budget demo during their rehersal. Don't
expect too much because the quality won't be great. Hopefully it'll give people
an idea of their sound and style. 17/01/02 State have a gig at XLs night club
in town. Entrance is only a few quid, so come on down and give them some support.
12/01/02 Gig at the old Fin & Firkin.
State are first of three support bands. 08/12/01 On 8th December 2001 State of the Nation have been awarded first place in theBURBs SoundRoom competition. 'Goodbye' track was pitted up against five other bands songs... 24/11/01 Our first gig has been arranged next Friday (30/11/01) at XL's in Birmingham . We'd all be very grateful if people could come down to support. We'll be supporting Gen and Chemical Sense. Work has begun on another new song, it will be called 'Desiderium' and it follows the completion of 'Little Abuse Me' and 'Ruin'. 24/10/01 State are pleased to announce they have a gig on Thursday 13th December at Scruffy Murphy's, supporting Magic Bullet Theory. Get down there if you can, speak to the band for more infomation. 13/10/01 Today 'Goodbye' got an airing on 106.8 Phase FM, the Sutton Collage Radio Station. So thanks a lot Louise Vizor for playing us! 10/10/01 The song that we have been working on for the past few weeks is now called 'Ruin', its quite experimental and rocks like a rock. We have also started to work on a song called 'Little Abuse Me' which we hope will turn out to be a really good tune. 06/10/01 03/10/01 After another good rehersal State are pleased to announce that Simon Lee is now an official band member. We have started to work on another song which is quite difficult to describe musically, it is unnamed as yet but its name, and the lyrics will be posted up soon. We also have another song called 'Starcross Roadkill' which is a mellow piece, just needs bass and drums. 03/10/01 Hey hey hey. GOODBYE.MP3 is now up. Click on the media - mp3s to get to it. Or click here for a quick link for instant download. 18/09/01 Construction on this very web site started.
Sorry it's a bit cr*p at the moment but i've only just started it and i'm feeling
a bit ill. 17/09/01 Well its been a long time since we rehersed
last but we've all been writing material. We're not short of ideas, which is
always good. Also sadly we've had to say goodbye to Andy C on the drums because,
quite simply, we can never get hold of him. Today we rehersed with a Mr Simon
Lee, who we are impressed with. He seems quite keen to join so we'll see how
it goes in the following weeks. If all does go well, we hope to arrange some
very low-key gigs in about a month or so to test out our material. The new songs
we are working on are called 'Little Abuse Me' and a currently
untitled song. 05/05/01 EDS BIRTHDAY!!!! WOOHOO!!! Third
rehersal. Started off really shit, Ash's amp didnt work then he broke two strings,
Andy came late, but we won't castrate him for punishment....this time hehe.
Made some recordings, pretty crappy but they'll give you an indication of our
style of music. Took some photos too, they'll be put up on the site soon. 'Cutting
Pictures' has been reduced to about 5 minutes. We've also decided to stop working
on the punky song for the time being. Second rehersal. We now have two
songs pretty much sorted. 'Goodbye' and a seven minute masterpiece (hehe) called
'Cutting Pictures.' The others we did 'Sweet Little Circus Geek,''Alone and
Abrasive' and the punky song all need a little bit more work on them. We'll
probably work on the songs we have before working on any more material in the
studio, hopefully we'll record some tracks next week on minidisc or something
and put them on the site. First rehersal. Gelled together well. Pretty much perfected
'Goodbye.' We are also currently working on a currently untitled punky song,
'Sweet Little Circus Geek' and a song called 'Alone and Abrasive.'
www.stateofthenation.20m.com has been awarded 'middle 5% of the web award'. I know it may not sound that good but hey, its a start! :o)
