More Housing Options:

There are currently (February 3, 2006) rooms at the Holiday Inn  City Center, 300 E. Ohio... closer to the tournament site than the offered secondary selection and in a decent neighborhood... for $173.
 
Also, there are rooms at the Hampton Inn, including breakfast, at 33 W. Illinois for $159.
 
And at the 4 Points Sheraton, Rush & Ohio, for $175.
 
Even the Tremont at 100 E. Chestnut has rooms that average $169/night (nights vary by exact date). It is a smaller hotel, but in a prime location and very nice.

These Rates were Obtained by Going to the Hotel's individual websites. You may be able to do better than that by calling the hotels directly and negotiating your own deals. The ACBL believes these rates will go down three weeks prior to our arrival as the hotel's "room block" situations with the other major convention in town expire, however, by waiting you risk losing out on the rooms.

 

As of April 16:

We have found that the Club Quarters has rooms for the whole time for $177/nite. It is located at Wacker and Michigan, only one block from the Hyatt. The club Quarter may require membership to stay there.

 
The Seneca Hotel, 200 East Chestnut, has rooms for $184...
 
The Talbott, Delaware and Michigan, has rooms for $231...
 
The House of Blues Hotel, Dearborn and Wacker, has rooms for $168.
 
The Omni, North Michigan, has rooms for $259...
 
The Wyndham, St. Clair, has room for $248.
 
The Fairfield Inn (a Marriott Hotel), Ontario and Michigan, has rooms for $179.
 
The Hotel Monaco, a couple blocks from the site, has rooms for $229 and is a really nice European style boutique hotel.
 
The Silversmith, Wabash and Madison, has rooms for $207 and it is another "boutique" type hotel.
 
All of these hotels are within one mile of the Hyatt. Shared cab rides would be very inexpensive from these sites to the playing site.
 
The closest hotel to the playing site is the Swissotel. It is right across the street from the Hyatt, however, the prices are significantly higher... The rate that shows up at Orbitz is $288/nite.
 
The above hotel availabilities are all assuming that people need the full ten nights. If your people are not planning on staying for the entire tournament, then they may find even more availabilities in the area.

As of May 10:

The Cass Hotel at 640 North Wabash has rooms available for $123.

The Talbott, Delaware and Michigan, has rooms for $209/$229...

The Fairfield Inn (a Marriott Hotel), Ontario and Michigan, has rooms for $169

It appears that the Talbott and the Fairfield Inn have some rooms cheaper than they had a few weeks ago. We will keep checking periodically for more rooms so don't despair, just keep checking and we will do our best to stay on top of things.

As of May 23:

The Seneca still has rooms for $184 according to orbitz.com … it is on the corner of Michigan and Chestnut and it is a very nice hotel.

The Hotel Blake, a three and a half star hotel at 500 South Dearborn Street, 800-444-6835, approximately one mile from the playing site, has rooms available for $144. According to hotels.com, if you stay at least 4 nights, you can save 20% off your stay.
