Dear Alpha of Illinois Member:

I am writing to invite you to the new 2001 Alpha of Illinois Induction Ceremony that will take place on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in room S101. I hope you can make this date and show your support to the new inductees. A cake and coffee reception will be served following the ceremony.

Other news:
Sylvia and Wally Malinowski volunteered to sell the new Alumni patches during the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Denver. Sales were swift and compliments on the design were many. We should all thank President Charles Guengerich for his continued support of Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha of Illinois for it was his generous offer to pay for the patches that allowed us to sell them at a wonderfully moderate price, which we believe helped make the patches attractive to buyers.

The annual Alpha of Illinois picnic will be held rain or shine on Sunday, July 29, 2001 at 12:00 noon. As usual the event will take place in Professor Roberta Gunderson's backyard, 3308 N. Natchez Ave. (11 blocks south of WWC). Hamburgers, hot dogs and soda will be provided. Donations of appetizers, salads and desserts would be greatly appreciated. Please R.S.V.P. (773-286-7461 or 773-481-8795) by July 26, 2001 and let Professor Gunderson know what you wish to contribute and how many family or friends will be joining you.

This is an election year! It is once again time to think about running for office: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Elections will be held during the annual picnic. We are only as good as our leaders, so think about being an officer. Our current officers have done an outstanding job one and all. Thanks to Hannah, Tammy, Sylvia and Donna for a job well done. We will also read and vote on any Orlowski Scholarship entries for the fall 2001 award. Spring 2001 brought one scholarship winner; congratulations to Agnieszka Handzel. We are hoping that Agnieszka will join Alpha this May since she will be graduating.
