2001 Commencement Exercises - Student Address

by Agnieszka Handzel

Good Morning. In the words of Henry Ford, “There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.” I gaze around the room and sense a feeling of happiness, tranquility and accomplishment. Finally, our common journey takes us to a point in our lives when we say goodbye to everything we have become accustomed to and move onto bigger things. We have met and surpassed our goals and today we celebrate the beginning of a new era of our lives. True, it will be sad saying goodbye to all the familiar faces, but it is comforting to know that we could always find them at Wright College. As we venture out into the vast world, I guarantee that the road we decide to take will be full of challenges and opportunities. Our job is to meet these challenges and recognize these opportunities and take advantage of everything they have to offer. We have come a long way, we can’t stop now. I believe that as graduates, our duty is to share our college experiences with everyone we encounter. We have to let the world know how excellent the Wright College community really is. We need to be proud of our accomplishments because we have made many sacrifices to be able to walk across the stage today. This institution has been a second home for us these last few years. Literally, I have spent more time within these walls the last two years then I did at home. I told one of the administrators that one day, and they adviced me not to tell Dr. Guengerich because I’ll have to pay room and board. As excited as I am standing before you today, I still can’t believe our journey has come to completion. I get goose bumps remembering everything I have done as part of the Wright College, and then a feeling of attainment rushes over me. My involvement in the college community reached far beyond the classroom, and exceeded my own dreams. I have never imagined I am capable of juggling so many different activities at one time. But then again, if there is a will, there’s always a way. On behalf of the graduating class, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the faculty and staff of Wright College. By encouraging us to get involved, you have brought out the best in us. You have helped us reach our potentials, and have always gone that extra mile to help us with whatever problems we might have. Thank you. I’d also like to thank our friends and families. You have been our mentors, our role models, our motivators—in other words our guiding light. The road through college wasn’t always an easy one, but you have been there every step of the way making our accomplishments that much more desirable. For raising us to become great people, we thank you. As we leave Wright College, remember the words of David Stan Jordan, “The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going.” Class of 2001— Congratulations! Thank You!
