Endowment Questions

  • How much money have you raised, and what is the Association's goal?

The fundraising goal is $40,000 to match the $10,000 anonymous donation. Presently, Superbrothers have pledged or donated more than $16,000 towards the $40,000 goal.

  • What is the fundraising deadline?

    Theta Chapter's 75th Anniversary: February 9, 2004.

  • What is the expected life of the fund?

The Endowment is intended to be permanent.

  • How do I make a donation?

To send a donation, please contact: Theta Alumni Association, c/o Keith Roots, Treasurer, 118 Alderman Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903-1702; phone: 434-977-7870; e-mail: kroots@virginia.edu.

Checks should be made payable to "Theta Alumni Association." Please put "Endowment" in the Memo Section.

We will be glad to work with your employer if matching gifts are an option.

  • Is my donation tax deductible?

While you should consult your tax advisor about the tax consequences of your donation, the Alumni Association is a registered 501(c)(3) and a Virginia Non-Profit Corporation.

  • How will the Trust be Administered?

The fund will be administered by the Association's Board of Trustees, made up of Superbrothers elected by the Association and the current president of the Chapter. Interest generated from the Endowment will be used to support the Chapter's service program. Neither the fund nor any interest will be used for Theta social activities or any activities of the alumni association.

  • How will you ensure funds will be used only for service?

It is envisioned that the Brotherhood will present a written proposal to the Alumni Board of Trustees requesting a particular sum for a particular service project. The proposal is not intended to create an insurmountable hurdle but to provide the Board with an assurance that Endowment Funds will be used for their intended purpose. It is also envisioned that, upon completion of the service project, the Brotherhood will present a final report. This report would include results of the project, pictures, and an accounting of how the funds were used.

As distributions are not scheduled to begin until 2004, the Board of Trustees are still formulating the process by which the Chapter will request Endowment funds. Some Superbrothers have suggested establishing a listserv to ensure that donors and Alumni Assocation members are kept informed about the status of the Endowment and have input about requested distributions.

To ensure your views are counted, attend Alumni Association meetings and/or contact an officer or Board member any time you have questions. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming Association event.
