Watch out for the 2003 girls Madison field hockey team. These girls are tough. And they are only getting better. In one season they went from only winning four games to seven. This year their goal is to win at least eight games. Although that doesn’t seem like much, it is when you consider their league they’re in. With field hockey teams like Scripps Ranch, USDHS, and Bishops, it won’t be easy. Madison girls are guaranteed to put up a fight. Head coach Erica Johnson and assistant coach Lori Franks have done a great job getting their players ready for the season. As good as the coaching is, everybody knows that your team is only as good as your players. That is where this year’s captains step in. After attending a summer camp, junior Vanessa Silvas came back and scored three goals against Patrick Henry. Coach Johnson said, she “Really noticed the improvement in Vanessa’s game when she came back.” Nicole Zepdeda is also a junior and along with Vanessa. It will be her third year playing at the varsity level. Brittany Valdez, a senior, is in her second year on varsity. With these three captains the team has great leadership this season for their other good players. Make sure you go to at least a couple of games and coach’s who have tried hard to build the program up. |
