How many of you students find it difficult to abide by the school dress code? Are you aware teachers, parents and students decided our dress code policies over four years ago? Our styles and trends have changed significantly within those years, so why comply to an outdated dress code? Shouldn’t we update our policies to keep up with our current school year? Or with current society? It’s understandable that there are unacceptable clothes that shouldn’t be worn to school such as mini skirts but why are spaghetti straps and halter-tops not permitted in beautiful San Diego? Are our shoulders that “sexy”? If nothing is hanging out or over exposed, isn’t that sufficient? Why should we be forced to dress differently when were at school than at home? If our parents find it acceptable, who is anyone else to say different? Our clothes are a big part of us. They can reveal who we are. There are self -expression without our clothes how else can we express our self? Telling us we can’t wear this or that for whatever reason is like saying we cant express our self. Should the school be able to limit our self-expression in any way? |
