Jag

If you like to help people and the community or just love kids, I have something for you.  It’s a program that has been around for about twenty years, in almost all of San Diego city schools and through out California.
Its called JAG, which stands for, Jobs for California Graduates.  It is a national non-profit organization.  This was originally put together to help kids stay in school and to help students get a secure job straight out of high school that will hopefully turn into a career.

This class helps tutor students from Lafayette and Sequoia Elementary.  The young children love it and look forward to seeing the JAG students each time they come to tutor.  JAG makes you feel good about yourself to see the children understanding and wanting to learn from you.  It is a great experience and I recommend it to everyone.

Some other things the class does are teaching you how to apply for jobs and college, decision-making, interviewing, employment testing, and public speaking.  Every year a few students are chosen to go to the annual career development conference in Sacramento.  This is where the students can debate issues and share what they’ve learned in the classroom.  Last year we made first place in decision making, and third plays in employment interviewing.  Our school almost always places.

Terri Reeves is out specialist/teacher at our school.  She is a wonderful teacher and person.  She helps  all of her students in every way she can.  If anyone is interested in JAG, she is the person to talk to.
