A Romeo and Juliet of Vampires and Werewolves

The movie Underworld is a darker version of Romeo and Juliet. Selene, a very important vampire to their community, falls in love with Doctor Michael Corwin who was bit by a werewolf. Corwin doesn’t know what is happening to him, but is certain that the mysterious Selene knows what is going on. As she realizes that he has become a werewolf, she tries to help solve a war between the vampires and the Lycans (werewolves). Selene realizes that the werewolves’ leader, who was supposed to be dead for years, is still alive. Selene tries to inform the head of the vampires that the leader is still alive, and poses a threat to the vampires. No one wants to believe her because a ceremony was going on very soon and nothing could go wrong. Slowly Selene starts to fall for Michael, but realizes that it is impossible for her to be with him.
The special effects in this movie made it very entertaining. It was interesting to see how they had changed the people’s faces from human to vampire or werewolf. The special effects seemed much like the Matrix. Though the special effects were not the same, some moves in this movie were much like the Matrix, which is a style of special effects many people have grown to like.
This movie had many twists and turns, and at times got hard to follow. The end has a very big twist that is unpredictable. I would give this movie a seven out of ten. The movie was fast paced, and didn’t leave all of the information. If you like movies that keep you thinking about what happened, then this is the movie for you.
