An angry teenager, Terry seems as if he has felt pain for a large portion of his life. At age fourteen Terry's parents were breaking up, and he and his friend, Charles 'Big Time' Bigelow, decide to go have a little fun around town. 'T.T.' (for Tiny Terry, always thinking small) and 'Big Time' (who was going make it big) were "…being angry kids. Busting windows, shoplifting. Then Charlie decided to prove himself to this big gang and he dragged me along a heist. I didn't even know what we was doing till he was climbing in the window." "But, you went in, too." "Never said I was bright. Next thing I knew, the cops were shouting 'freeze!' and I was doing ninety days in Juvie. That was a slap on the wrist next to Charlie. He was in prison for three years." Another guy he hung out with was Julio "July" Jimenez, his best friend. July had saved Terry's life while they were fighting a gang off their turf, and they even had a secret handshake. July makes his first appearance as one of hundreds of hopeful Joker recruits. July has a wife and two children, with a third one on the way, and Terry is determined to keep him from wrecking his life. Not all of Terry's past haunts him in a bad way, I guess. Since his 'bad old days' Terry has grown up and found a better life. And a normal one, for the most part. Aside from his deep-rooted anger, he goes through it as smooth as possible, which isn't very much a lot of the time. He deeply misses his recently murdered father, despite his harsh attitude towards him and their rather stormy relationship. Terry finds ways to vent his anger, in fighting, either as Batman now or just anyone that put him over the top before, like Nelson Nash, the school hotshot. He has a soft side, not often seen. When he is with Dana, Melanie, or when he first found out about his dad's death, you see a kinder, gentler Terry, some people don't know exist. He also tends to blame himself for things that have happened through shortcomings he may find in himself. Such as, his father's death, or Ian Peek's hidden camera and what was supposed to be the exposé on he and Bruce's involvement in the fight against crime. This also comes from his protective nature over those he cares about. He can be hot and cold, depending on what is going on in his life, and who is crossing him at the time. Terry has little time for humor left, though he does find ways. He hates those who terrorize the streets, but Terry also has enough sense, and honor, not to kill. A typical superhero tradition, true, but still a noble and honest one. He also believes that people truly can change. By taking on Batman, Terry takes on his anger, and fear, just as much as he takes on any criminal in Gotham City. Hard to define, Terry is the very thing that personifies Batman, complex.
