The Book Report Rubric for Third Grade

     

Mastery Level of Understanding:
Has a comprehensive summary of the beginning, middle and end of the book.

Talks of the major settings and major characters of the book.

Describes the plot of the book clearly.

Incorporates specific and personal feelings and ideas into the report

Goes beyond the prompt with creativity

Very little if not any mechanical errors and spelling mistakes

Emerging and Developmental Level of Understanding:
Simple summary of the beginning, middle and end of the book.

Fundamental overview of the plot and characters.

No original wording and comprehension of the book.

Follows the prompt (format) of the report exactly, with no sense of personal initiative.

Some mechanical and spelling errors.

Beginning Level of Understanding
Missing elements of the summary (i.e. the beginning, middle, and end of the book)

Has a non-comprehensive understanding of the plot and the characters.

Talks about off subject elements.

Does not follow the prompt.

Quite a lot of mechanical and spelling mistakes
