TIGERS FAREWELL FEROCIOUS SEASON
Monday, 1st September 2003
The third and premiership quarter saw some remarkable football by both sides, despite the heavy
rain that had fallen on the ground towards the end of the second quarter and during half time.
Skills from both sides lifted a couple of notches in what proved sensational footy for the 31,000+
fans that had flocked to the M.C.G. Neither side registered much of a score for the quarter, the
Tiger's once again marginally winning the quarter by 5 points. At the final break, the Tigers
were 9.4.58 to Hawthorn's 10.9.69 - a margin of just 11 points.
Both teams allowed the standard of football to once again slip in the final term, with scrappy
play around the ground. The team in white finished off one of their most disgraceful games of the
season, with woeful (although relatively unbiased) decisions across the ground all day. Greg Stafford
goaled half way through the quarter to put the Tigers within just 4 points of victory, before
the Hawks were again allowed to kick away to a two goal straight lead. Ty Zantuck
made an astonishing return to play, fighting against three yellow and brown foes in front of goal
before booting the ball through the big sticks for a vital goal for the Tigers to put the team
1 straight kick from the Hawks. Two subsequent misses in front of goal were incredibly costly
for the Tigers, before the Hawks were allowed to fiddle with the ball, running out the clock
and sealing their 4 point win.
The final score, the Hawks 11.12.78 defeated the Tigers 11.8.74. The Tiger's won three of the four
quarters, but lost the game in the opening quarter with a 27 point defecit. This game farewells
a more than disappointing Tiger season for 2003, and signals an embarrassing farewell to the
greatest Tiger of them all.
The Tiger Stripe would like to take this opportunity to farewell Leon Cameron, and thank him greatly
for his contribution to the Richmond Football Club over the past 4 years. Furthermore, on
behalf of the club, the fans, the league and football followers everywhere, thank you Jack Dyer.
Rest in Peace.
This is TS Reporting, for The Tiger Stripe.
