The imposing
building of the Fortress was begun by the Visconti family with the wing which
bears their name where the beautifully frescoed "Hall of Justice" is to be
found, together with the Torre Castellana "castle tower" from the top of
which there is a wonderfull view. In 1449 the Fortress became the property
of the Borromeo family who extended and transformed it from a Fortress into
a home.
The first italian Puppet Museum has been opened during the year 1988.
There is a good road on which you can drive up from Angera to the Fortress (spacious parking lot).
