These women are not pilgrims, but instead are representatives of Lhasa's large contingent of sales ladies. These women frequent the heavily-touristed areas, hoping to sell beads, jewelry, and various items. I include their picture here, however, because their costume is actually fairly representative of what most Tibetan women were wearing when I was in Lhasa.
I took this picture from a bit of a distance, not wanting to shove my camera into anyone's face, and I did a lousy job with the focusing. I have tried to sharpen the image up a bit with software, but between the poor original and the scan, this is the best I can make it look. Ah, well....
