Sri Lanka, what a beautiful place it is. For all you people out there who have never heard of it- and yes there are some still left in the world- Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean. You can find it on most maps. It is teardrop shaped and is about 21 kilometers SouthEast of the tip of India.
Sri Lanka has a length of 435 km North to South and 225 km East to West and a land area of 65,00 sq.km. This makes it fairly small island considering that it has a population of over 17 million and a civil war.
Sri Lanka has a written history (the Mahavamsa and the Chulavamsa ) that stretches back almost 2,500 years to when the Indian Prince Vijaya landed on the country in 500 B.C. Even then the country had a thriving native population and its own government.
