Before we left to the island of Thassos, we visited the old centre of Kavala. The boundery between the 'old' and 'new' city is formed by 'Kamares', the aquaduct built around 1550. | ||

Walking through the pitoresque and narrow streets, you can find some very nice spots to enjoy some coffee, or just to watch beautiful flowers. | ||

Central in the old city lays the castle of Kavala, which is open to visitors. You can climb the walls and look between the crenels at the city or at the sea. Between the walls is a pretty good preserved building, which was still being restaurated while we visited it. | ||

This ended our journey through Macedonia and Thrace. It certainly is worth visiting, if you enjoy ancient sights and beautiful mountains. |
