- CILLIUM
- Probably made a municipium around 80 A.D. under
VESPASIAN or TITUS, Cillium got colonia status
early in the 3rd century under the
SEVERUS dynasty( colonia Cillitana) .
- St. Augustine had a monastery built here in the 5th
C.In 544, near Cillium, the exarch SOLOMON,
governor of Byzantine Africa, died fighting
Berber tribes.

- MAUSOLEUM OF THEE
FLAVIL
- This mausoleum has 3superposed tiers, the higher
being smaller than the lower, and a pyramidical
roof whose niche, crowned by a cock, held a
statue. Each side of the middle storey has 4
fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals. A poem
is carved on the facade of the bottom storey: it
has 110 lines in honour of Flavius Secundus.
Another inscription on the middle storey
indicates that he and his family were buried in
this mausoleum. Another ruined, mausoleum stands
a few hundred yards away. Thus the
name'Kasserine' (Two Castles' in classical Arabic
