CILLIUM
Probably made a municipium around 80 A.D. under VESPASIAN or TITUS, Cillium got colonia status early in the 3rd century under the SEVERUS dynasty( colonia Cillitana) .
St. Augustine had a monastery built here in the 5th C.In 544, near Cillium, the exarch SOLOMON, governor of Byzantine Africa, died fighting Berber tribes.
 
MAUSOLEUM OF THEE FLAVIL
This mausoleum has 3superposed tiers, the higher being smaller than the lower, and a pyramidical roof whose niche, crowned by a cock, held a statue. Each side of the middle storey has 4 fluted pilasters with Corinthian capitals. A poem is carved on the facade of the bottom storey: it has 110 lines in honour of Flavius Secundus. Another inscription on the middle storey indicates that he and his family were buried in this mausoleum. Another ruined, mausoleum stands a few hundred yards away.
