The choir and main altar of Cantebury Cathedral.
We made a beeline for the cathedral. So, I'll limit my comments to it.
Canterbury Cathedral - Canterbury Cathedral is one of those places
whose image has been immortalized as one of the quintessential English monuments.
It is nice to discover that the actual building is as impressive as the
myths surrounding it. The cathedral is enclosed within a wall that seperates
it from the town. However, this seperation also serves to remind the visitor
that this spiritual place is seperate from the secular world as well. The
building loses none of its awe-inspiring nature in its interior. I was particularly
impressed with the crypt, where even the air felt ancient. Particular attention
should be paid to the 12th century frescos in the Chapel of St. Gabriel.
If a visitor doesn't feel transported back in time while in the crypt, they
have no imagination. Cost to enter the cathedral is £2.50. The price
is £1.50 for students. You must buy a permit to take pictures in Cantebury
Cathedral. The permit allows you to take pictures anywhere in the buildings
except in the crypt. Cost is £1.50 or £1.00 for students.
