MEXICO CITY

Located on the south side of the Zocalo, which is occupied by twin buildings, is the Ayuntamiento(City Hall). Decorated with colonial tiles of arms of Cortes and other conquistadores, was originally built in 1532, destroyed by fire in 1692 and rebuilt in 1722. In 1935, the Distrito Federal needed more office space. To maintain architectural symmetry in the Zocalo, the "matching" structure across the street (November 20) was built.
