In 1968 disaster struck this once serene valley as torrential rain wrought havoc all over the Kalimpong Hills. The force of the floodwaters snapped the beautiful "Anderson Bridge" built by the British and which had been part of the landscape for many decades. For almost 22 years the local residents had to cope with a single lane "suspension bridge". Today visitors can drive over Teesta River on a sturdy, concrete bridge once again.
