University of Madras
This is the world-renown university that had nurtured many a world leaders in the field of arts, science and politics. The premier institution of higher learning and research in Madras recently had its centenary celebrations. It is located overlooking the sea with its wide sands and foaming waves, making the portals a definite attendance point to students from all the adjoining and affiliated institutions of the city. Alongside the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology, Madras), Anna University, the MIT (Madras Institute of Technology, one of the famed centers of aeronautical engineering), the Govt. Veterinary College which recently became a deemed University, and a handful of other deemed universities, the U of Madras makes up for the educational and cultural richness of Madras, the city of cultural surfeit.
