The Pre-Valentine's Day Romantic Weekend Adventure
Dates of trip: February 5-7
Travel Method: Plane, Shuttle Service
Resort: Yacht Club
Note: this report contains only planning details, since we haven't left yet!
Background:
On a particularly quiet day at work, I was mentally doing some trip planning for our upcoming October WDW vacation. Thinking that 10 months was entirely too long to wait, I emailed my husband and simply said, "Take me to the Grand Floridian for Valentine’s Day, please?"
His reply was, "Uh, no!"
Oh, well. With nothing better to do, I decided to play around with airfare and check rates with CRO, thinking if I found a really super bargain, I could convince Joe to take the trip. I called CRO, checking rates for February 12-14. Not much was available, and I ended up booking a standard room at Dixie Landings for $149/night.
"I’m gonna have to do better than that if I want to get a Disney fix," I thought, so I got out my calendar and called CRO again. This time I started out asking for AP rates for either Feb 5-7 or Feb. 26-28. The CRO agent said "AP rates? Huh?" So, I said I’d have to call back later, and then hung up and punched "redial", hoping to get someone who knew at least as much as I did!
Success, at last. I reached a knowledgeable CM and, after reviewing options for the end of February, we ruled it out. Then she started checking for Feb 5-7, starting with the deluxe resorts. As she checked availability, I heard short bursts of keystrokes followed by a "nope". This continued as I held my breath. Then she said, "Okay, here we go. I have a room with an AP rate at the Yacht Club for two nights for a total with tax of $375.18." Photo of the Yacht Club
WHOO HOO!!!!
That’s a rate of $169 a night (before tax)! Yes! I think she got a kick out of how excited I was, cause she was laughing along with me (wish I could remember her name). I booked the room, had her cancel the Dixie Landings reservation I’d just made, and hung up.
Now for the airfare. I www’d my way to Travelocity and found a rate of $208 on Delta, arriving at 11 am on the 5th and departing at 6 pm on the 7th. That would give us a nice little weekend!
Then, the biggest surprise of all – Joe went along with it! DOUBLE WHOO HOO!! Suddenly my trip countdown dropped from 275 days to just 26 days!
I’ve made a reservation with Tiffany Towncar for transportation so we don’t have to bother with a rental car. I’ve used them once and found their service to be fabulous!
We hope to be checked in and have our resort id’s by noon or 12:30 at the latest. (I have a Park Hopper with 2 days on it, which I’ll cash in for credit on my AP, which I guess we’ll have to do before we actually check in.)
Must-do list for the weekend:
Some attractions Joe missed last trip (Countdown to Extinction, It’s Tough to be a Bug)
Nightlife at the Boardwalk
Test Track!!
Cycling in the mornings for Joe
We aren’t going to bother with any water parks or with Pleasure Island or the Marketplace. Instead we’re just going to concentrate on experiencing our absolute favorite attractions, enjoying a few new (for us) restaurants, and relaxing in the beautiful Yacht Club setting!
Ain’t spontaneity grand?
