The Magic Kingdom

A true place of magic!!!

In the winter of 1975 I made my first trip to the Magic Kingdom. It was only for one day, but we saw about everything, it was a smaller park then and the crowds were not bad. I remember riding the new Space Mt.. I had watched it open well watching The Wonderful World of Disney (which ofcourse I watched every Sunday night at 7 pm). The following winter I again went on a one day trip with my Grandmother, and I know at that time Disney had me hooked for life...

As a parent I think Disney is one of the best places for a family vacation. It has something for all ages and interests, and is now oh so big!!! You can't see it all in a week anymore. However the Magic Kingdom holds a special place in my heart and will always be my favorite. "Remember The Magic...."

view of the Magic Kingdom Main Street Train Station

Nothing matches the feeling as when you arrive at the Magic Kingdom! I always feel just like I kid again, and that is a big part of the 'magic'. The Train is a great way to get around the park. One thing for sure is Disney has you walking miles everyday so ride when you can!!! The train stops in Frontierland near Splash and Thunder Mts., and Mickey's Toontown Fair, just a short walk to Tomorrowland. You will find a shortcut that runs along the train tracks neat Donald's Boat, past the Speedway and ends near Space Mt right next to Tomorrland Light and Power Company (arcade).

view of Main Street USA and Horsedrawn Trolley

I just love the horsedrawn trolleys. We're always in toooo much of a hurry on the way into the Magic Kingdom, but we always ride them out. It is just a small and often overlooked piece of magic.
Main Street itself is beautiful. I love the alley filled with flowers, the Barbershop with a singing quartet, just the nostalgia not to mention the SHOPPING! (LOL)

view of Dumbo The Flying Elephant Fantasyland has to be one of the most classic areas of the park, also it can be the MOST crowded. The rides are not filled with special effects or thrills. It is the classic characters like Dumbo and Peter Pan that make this land a hit. I happen to love the Peter Pan ride, would I wait 45 min. to get on it -no way!!!! That is why Fantasyland is our 1st thing park. We go right away the waits are all under 5 min. and have a fabulous time! We sadly miss Mr. Toad's wild ride, but can't wait to ride the new Winnie the Pooh ride.

View of Cinderella's Golden Carousal

The carousal has to be one of the most lovely in the world and a big thrill for the very young. I have had trouble getting mine off at the end of the ride. Often no wait for this classic also (everyone is in line at Dumbo!). Snow White's Adventures is also located in Fantasyland this ride maybe considered just alittle "spooky" by the little ones because of the evil queen so take care on this one. It's A Small World is my sentimental favorite, my Grandma loved it and I always remember her well I ride, the little ones also love this one.

view of a race car and my happy kids

After Fantasyland Tomorrowland is our next stop. THe kids just love the Speedway! You have to be 52" to drive a car by yourself, however I let my little ones sit behind the wheel well I push the pedal. Kids as young as one get a big thrill on this one. Also don't miss the new Buzz Lightyear ride, the line on this moves really well. Tomorrowland Transit Authority is a wonderful place to rest your feet, and get a tour of Tomorrowland well your at it. But the family favorite has to be Space Mt!!! We use the child swap for the little one, everyone goes into the ride, then we swap off at the loading point. Ask a cast member for details at all the thrill rides. Alien Encounter is the only show(it is not a ride) that I REALLY don't recommend for small children especially under 8 or 9 years. My daughter has loved Tower of Terror since the age of four, but Align Encounter can be described as a scare in the dark. An align gets loose and eats people, licks your neck, etc...it is the things nightmares are made of, I did not let her on it till she was 8 and that was after she begged me. You are trapped in your seat also and young kids may really hate this. My, I screamed on that one!!
