Maidanea

"Maidanea, one of the first B&Bs to open in this beautiful corner of the Basque country, is a chalet-style farmhouse on a hill looking over the river to France. It is a traditional Spanish home with a mix of old and new furnishings, tiled floors, lace curtains, a collection of old plates, plants and books, and pictures over some of the beds. It has been much restored -you probably wouldn't guess it was more than 400 years old. There is a big, galleried sitting/dining room for breakfast, a relaxed meal served as late as you like; the silence of the place and good mattresses encourage late starts. The bedrooms, on the first and attic floors, are modern and medium-sized. Señora has levished much care on details such as her dried flower arrangements and hand-embroidered sheets and cushions. Some rooms have the view across to France and number 4, our favourite, has its own balcony. The whole house is utterly spotless, there is a good mature garden and the old streets of nearby beautiful Hondarribia to discover."
