| Gambela. This is near to the Sudanese border,
and there's a distinct change in culture here. Which may be explained
in part by the number of refugees in the area. Not only Sudanese
but Kenyan as well. One person I met had fled Ethiopia during the
war, and ended up in a refugee camp there. The conditions were horrific -
each morning he'd wake up beside people who had died overnight
during a malaria epedemic. Now he was back in Ethiopia, heading
for the Sudan in the hope that conditions would be better there.
Which is real desperation. |
