Radio Hauraki

Radio Hauraki has a special place in most Anoraks hearts. Following the European explosion in Offshore radio in the 60's, New Zealand followed with its own Offshore station. Although Landbased Commercial Radio for many years, the stations original free spirit, the historical significance of the station going aground on air, and the dramatic recordings of that event secured it its own place in history.

Hauraki shows that it is possible to come 'on shore' and exist, although I do wonder how its doing now as the UK's commercial radio scene stretches overseas with its acquisitions.

That all said, listening to Hauraki on the radio was one of my main reasons for going to Auckland in New Zealand !
