Beaches, Beaches, Beaches

North of Manila is the province of Pangasinan. Its major tourist attraction is the Hundred Islands, scattered along the southern shores of the Lingayen Gulf.

Hundred Islands

The Hundred Islands area is a group of 123 islands and islets totalling almost 2,000 hectares scattered off the coast of Lucap, Alaminos.

Lucap is the jumping-off point where visitors can board bancas to the island of their choice. Alaminos offers a number of small resort inns.

For the more adventurous, one can swim from island to island. (I am not recommending it here, as I'm not sure if our boatman was only kidding when he said there are sharks around those islands near the open sea.)There are beaches in the bigger islands and the coral reefs are excellent for snorkelling.

The small islets are actually big rocks jutting out of the ocean waters. The bigger islets have vegetation - trees and shrubs filling up the rocks. Some of these islands are mostly unexplored. Legend says that there is a tribe of wild monkeys that come to the shoreline to watch the sunset.

On many points between islets, the water is shallow enough for swimming, boating and snorkeling. The Quezon islands is most frequented because of its facilities like picnic sheds, toilets, and view decks. Facilities for camping are available at Children's Island. These can be reached by hiring motorized bancas at the wharf in Lucap.
