Puerto Galera has been dubbed as the Pearl of Mindoro. This beach resort town, with its natural seawall, exciting dive sites, lush mountains and pristine beaches, make it
one of the Philippines' top travel destinations.
Going there: from Manila, it's about 3 hours by bus or car to the newly constructed international port of Batangas. From here, there are several ferries to take you to your particular pier in Puerto Galera nearest your beach resort destination. Crossing the sea takes about 1 hour or more, depending if it's a fast craft or motorized banca.
Accommodation is numerous, from family-run cottages and hotel rooms of all categories. These can be from siimple beach huts made from bamboo and rattan to comfortable luxury bungalows with kitchen facilities. Beachfront accommodations are generally more expensive than those further inland.

The waters around Puerto Galera are rich in corals and marine life. The best diving spots are located along Sabang, Small La Laguna and on the north coast of Medio island. This island is known to world scientists because of its treasures of botanical and zoological specimens and marine plants.
Fully equipped modern training facilities for all levels of diving are available. At most beaches, there are surfboards, sailing boats, hobie cats, dive masks, snorkels and fins for rent.
Easily accessible from Puerto Galera are places of interest, including Tamaraw Waterfalls, Mangyan (indigenous) native villages, gold panning, island hopping, trekking in the jungle, and exploring the many hidden valleys and streams, all part of your adventure.
If you ever need a break from Manila, the short trip to Puerto Galera is certainly rewarding, for as legend has it, that once a sailor arrived on the island he would never leave without a promise to come back.
