Mountain Climbing



Mt. Apo , in North Cotabato, Mindanao, is the Philippines’ highest mountain peak, towering 10,311 ft.(3,093 m.) above sea level.

Its vast area of 72,976 hectares is a an outdoors enthusiast dream: lush tropical forests dotted with hot and cold springs, mountain lakes, sulfur craters, hidden waterfalls. Trails pass through rainforests, orchids and wildflowers, giant mahogany trees. If you’re lucky, you might see the Philippine eagle in flight – the few remaining ones in the area– or even the falconet and the Mt. Apo myanah.

Towards the summit is Lake Vernado, the country’s highest mountain lake at 8,000 above sea level. Its crystal-clear waters reflect the twin peak of Mt. Apo.

TRAVEL TRAIL: Fly from Manila to Davao City, then travel overland towards Kidapawan in North Cotabato where you begin your ascent to Mt. Apo. (4 days, 3 nights trek; moderate to strenuous...some have done it in 2-3 days…)
