Where else can you get a plate of sheep's stomach, to go?
The desire to travel through Caledonia began with Braveheart, John Muir, and
Doogie MacLean. Any country that produced stuff like that was worth visiting.
Scotland did not let me down. After finding a walking trail you could see
on the national map, and some islands full of ruins, I was off for adventure.
The West Highland Way and the Orkney Islands were full of variety and wonders.
There were moors, mountains, lochs, cliffs, cities, blackenings, ferries,
hostels, storytellers, sheep, shipwrecks, folk tunes, nomads, torrents, and 2AM
'sunsets'. The stories could last a lifetime... or at least 2 1/2 weeks ;-).
This was a fantastic trip without midges and with few tourists. I'd
love to return someday, though I doubt my last visit can be topped. My travel
companions, in order of appearance, were Jeff, Tree, Michael, Uli, Ian, and
Francesca.
