FBA used to be my sure thing -- figure on championships or nearly so in most leagues. What you see are the results of not caring enough to go through the live drafts and not following the progress of the Association throughout the season. I did manage to nearly fill my games in most leagues, but I missed out on great free agent pick-ups that could have given me a couple spots in the standings.

Disappointing regular season, but I managed a relatively successful playoffs. Only one team was truly bad, and the rest were a sorta mishmash of star players without enough top-line talent to make the season a rousing success. (As with the end of FLB, my early season was hampered by lack of internet at the house.)

Too many leagues, too little time! There was also the Great Internet Outage of 2007, from around September 7 thru the end of the season, during which I barely checked my teams. Considering, 7 first places out of 15 leagues ain't too shabby. Obviously Matt Holliday was big-time for me. Sabathia was the pitching star. I actually had Haren & Webb on a bunch of those teams too. Summary: 7 championships, 5 runner-ups, one each 3rd-4th-6th.

Yahoo #1 - Very tight league, with the top 5 separated by 7.5 points. I edged it up to second (2.5 back) but couldn't pull it out. Kobe was the only clear superstar on this team. It rounded out with solid contributors like Billups (runner-up MVP for producing although missed 10+ games), Jason Terry, Danny Granger, Dwight Howard (ugh! FT%), and J.R. Smith.

Yahoo #2 - The league champ was dominant, winning all counting categories and rating 5th in both %'s. I was never close, only a few days within 15 points during the second half.

Yahoo #3 - I finished atop of little group squeezed from 4th to 7th; never close to the champ. Big drop-off after Garnett. I give Dwight Howard the runner-up honors despite the horrid FT% because he was strong in all the other categories compared to guys like Okur, Granger, and Felton.

Yahoo #4 - Strong team. Oh-so-close: half-point from 1st. Just 17 turnovers would have swapped me with the champ. Dirk & Amare make a great 1-2 (ranked 3 and 9 overall). I also had Artest, Boozer, and Josh Smith - giving me 5 of the top 33.

CBS #1 - I was consistently 5 to 10 points back over the second half. Bigs were solid, with Chandler's breakout at C to go along with studes KG, Bosh, & Marion. The back-end guards hurt me.

CBS #2 - Nearly wire-to-wire and a comfortable-enough 6 point win. I swapped Billups for Kobe straight-up early in the season, which I'd estimate as a winner.

CBS #3 - Never close, 20+ back most of the season. Injuries hurt here, with Jermaine O'Neal being my most-active at just 69 games. Bosh gets the MVP nod due to a higher FG% (49 vs 43) even though I still finished last in that category (grr!). Paul, Billups, and Artest were other contributors in the 60ish game range.

Led is the number of weeks I led the league in scoring during the regular season.
Prediction is my pre-season guess where my team would finish based on the draft results.
MVP is the player who earned the most fantasy points for my team. Runner-up is second-highest earner. (Excludes Def and K)

Yahoo #1 - Pretty worthless after Steven Jackson. Hasselbeck could be an ok mediocore-level QB, except I didn't make up for at other RB & WR spots. Edge was my #2 RB, and my WR (Horn, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss) averaged only around 4 points per game each.

Yahoo #2 - QB killed me here. In order, I used six (Culpepper-Bledsoe-Carr-Huard-McNair-Garcia). With LJ at the top and respectable WR (Houshmandzdeh, Roy Williams, Ward), I should have ranked more highly in the end.

Yahoo #3 - On the surface, this teams looks even weaker than the above two. Usually, you'd be in bad shape if your top two players are WR. Hard to explain when I look back. Maybe D (Philly) or K (Wilkins) made a bigger difference than I realized.

Yahoo #4 - Awesome at the top here, after acquring LT via trade before the season. McNabb was great at QB, then subbed in Brees after the injury. Good rule: favor the trade that contains the best player among those offered.

FoxSports - Blah again. No one stood out on this team. Thankfully, Winslow developed into a good TE or I would have been very near last place.

ESPN - Another LT league. With Palmer at QB and Boldin & Wayne at WR, this team was very strong and healthy. I got decent production from Burress / McGahee at the other WR-RB slot to round out a nice team.

CBS - A good year for the Johnsons - Larry & Rudi @ RB, Chad @ WR. With Brees' super year at QB, this was another stable & healthy team. I emerged as the clear leader during the regular season but slipped in the first playoff round.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 - Can't go wrong with Pujols at the top. Aramis Ramirez helped out with the big 2nd half. Zambrano was the clear ace, with some help from Bonderman & Haren.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 - Tough MVP call with Utley, Holliday, Sizemore, Teixeira, Glaus having very similar numbers; not that I'm complaining!

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 - Pretty similar to #1, except insert Webb for Zambrano.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 - Cabrera, Bay, Utley were my stars here. Webb & Zambrano made a great 1-2 for the pitchers.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #5 - Howard & Beltran atoned for the slightly down years of A-Rod & Abreu. I had big K guys at pitcher (Zambrano, Schmidt, Haren); typical of pitching in general this year with no clear standouts.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #6 - Pitching was weak on rates (exhibit 1A: Cy Young winner Burnett). Hitting was pretty weak too, with A-Rod my clear MVP.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #7 - Another close MVP race. Wright (led my team in RBI, SB) gets the nod over Helton (1B less premium), Bill Hall (low BA), Young & Tejada (maybe should have traded one?), and Magglio (zero SB). Old Man Clemens stepped up for my pitching staff, rounding it out with Schmidt, Zito, Hudson.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #8 - Jeter was a beast in the second half, pacing this team easily in runs and BA, edging out specialist SB guy Podsednik, and keeping up with the big guys (Thome, Rolen) in RBI. Clemens stepped in here too, aided by Webb.

Rosters -- Standings

Yahoo #1 - My draft after Round 4 was extremely weak, with only Kaman (swung him for Villanueva and RJ mid-way) working out. I thought I might still pull it out, as the leader used his games. But the eventual champ ended up over 100 games short of max, so he should have run away.

Yahoo #2 - Amazing team, ranked in Top 50 of all teams near the end of the season (finished #113). I got the good end of this trade: Nash-R.Lewis-Maggette-B.Simmons for Swift-Jaric-Livingston-Payton. And he proposed it! Obviously I didn't think much about accepting that. No competition after that.

Yahoo #3 - Solid win, a little closer than anticipated. My % were awful (6.5 points total!), but the counts were all 10+ (last in TO, as usual). Mike James was a nice pick-up, helped offset AK-47 injuries.

Yahoo #4 (winners) - I gave it a whirl in a winners league. I wasn't that far from 4th, but this wasn't a good team. I gave Bibby for Marbury early in the season. That killed me. Why did I lose the two leagues where I got Lebron?? I even grabbed him at #4 in this one!

Weekly scores - Regular Season Standings - Graphs: Weekly records ; Rankings by week ; Aggregate point deficits by week - Not a good year for me overall. I barely kept my aggregate record about 50% for the regular season (only one week over 50% after week 3), and I didn't have much success in the playoffs. In fact, my loss in the ESPN championship round pushed my combined record one game under 50%.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #1 (private) - Awful team. This was an auto-draft, and I thought I would be ok. "Cool, I got Vick in Round 7 and Pennington is a decent backup." Yeah, I'm an idiot. At least I grabbed Chris Brown and Terry Glenn to keep me from probably finishing last. I gave up early on Chambers at WR who ended up having a good year, and I ended up using 9 WR and 6 RB. Instability is not the sign of a good team.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #2 (public) - Very even league. Probably Ahman Green is what kept me in the middle pack instead of competing for 1st (trailed by 4 games but only 55 points) -- Joe Horn too. I guess you'll always end up with at least one or two bad picks. Dunn and Fitzgerald were huge fill-ins.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #3 (public) - Not bad considering how I struggled at QB after Bulger got hurt (Frerotte, Warner, McNair). LT was nice, but his late struggles cost me a bit. Kevin Jones turned out to be worthless (drafted him high in multiple leagues); same with Tony Gonzalez. I still would have had a decent chance at 1st (out-scored regular season champ) if Bulger had stayed healthy.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #4 (public) - Wow! Ten WR!! I looked back, and that's the most I've used in a league since I started saving my rosters. I guess I could criticize Favre too, but he's been good to me over the years and I had the option of using Hasselbeck but chose not to.

Fox/MSN Fantasy Football (public?) - Pathetic performance here. Only 1 other team was at the live draft. And there were 5 teams that never even set an active line-up (i.e. scored zero every week). I was only 4-4 against the real teams. I lost my first playoff game by 2 points: Corey "Questionable" Dillon was on my bench with a strong game, and Brian Finneran had 1 reception worth 3 points for my opponent. So yeah, it was close. Warrick Dunn and Reuben Droughns saved me from Dillon and Kevin Jones.

ESPN Fantasy Football (public?) - Good team. High lineup stability. Steve Smith and Mr. Anderson were great gets. I kept Chambers on my bench (although he was excellent during the 2nd half) and could avoid worthless Kevin Jones. Other than Byes, I essentially used the same lineup after the first few weeks. Too bad the champ had Larry Johnson, who ripped me apart in the championship round. Easily by best team still.

Yahoo #3 3 of 12 4th 5th Manny Ramirez Pedro Martinez 1st
Yahoo #4 1 of 12 1st 3rd Derrek Lee Roger Clemens 1st

Graphical Wrap-Up Not a very good season over-all. I got burned by the likes of Thome, Rolen, and Schilling. Plus, I just wasn't very active because I was on an internship this summer and didn't get to check my teams daily (had limited time even when I could check). Some things are more important than fantasy sports (gasp!).

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 - My hitters in this league remind me of question #13 from the Keltner list: "If this man were the best player on his team, would it be likely that the team could win the pennant?" In this case, the "man" is Jeff Kent, circa 2005, and the answer is NO! I got some good play out of Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman down the stretch, but nothing else was note-worthy. My pitching was decent with Johan Santana up front and a fair number of saves from Hermanson and Turnbow.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 (Winners) - Another horrendous team. I was actually over 50 points behind and in last place late in the season. Andruw Jones made a nice contribution to both my 2nd place finish in RBI and last place finish in BA. Dontrelle probably boosted up my pitching enough to keep me out of next-to-last, but it would have been nice to move up just 1 point to get 6th place.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 - Manny and Hafner solidified this team's hitting. Pitching maybe should have been a little better, but my starters after Pedro (Hudson, Millwood, Livan, Webb) were low on W's and K's.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 - What's this?? A team that finished first!?!? I thought I could go virtually wire-to-wire in this, but it became back-and-forth over the final 6 weeks. I seemed to edge ahead right at the end when the other managers ran out of innings (not the first time that's happened). By some miracle, I was 1st overall in hitting despite having Thome and Beltran as my top picks. Go figure. With Clemens, Peavy, and Halladay (when healthy) as my top starters, you'd expect my pitchers to be the strong point.

A good season all-around. I wasn't even very active, which I think attests to the general lack of interest in FBA rather than my abilities.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #1 (public, rotisserie) - 1 steal, 3 blocks. That's all I needed to get an extra 1.5 points boost into 1st place. I was in 6th place, down by 20 points, with 6 weeks to go. That's a testament to the importance of budgeting your games.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #2 (public, rotisserie) - I was in 1st for two-thirds of the season, and it was never closer than 5 points over the final 10 weeks. 3's were my only weakness.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #3 (public, rotisserie) - It took me a while to reach 1st in this league, but I had a strong trend of improvement over the final 10 weeks. One of the 2nd place teams left 60 games unplayed, so it's possible I would not have won if he'd been active.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #4 (public, rotisserie) - I was in 1st all but the first two weeks of the season. Notice how I dominated in the two leagues where I had Garnett and Nash. Not a coincidence.

Regular season standings for all leagues. - I seem to get just a little bit worse at FFL every year. That's why this webpage is so great for me because I can look back at my 2000 season when I won 72% of my games. Yeah, it's pretty nerdy, but I love to keep track of things.

Yahoo! #1 - Start: 1-3. Finish: 0-4 (including playoffs). Middle: 7-1. My WR after Harrison were pretty bad. Everything else was solid but not spectacular.

Yahoo! #2 - I was never ranked better than 5th. Reggie Wayne and Willis McGahee were great surprises that kept me from probably being close to last place. At QB, I had the constant annoyance of deciding whether to be frustrated by Bulger or Plummer on a weekly basis. I picked up Brees as a free agent about halfway through. I should have just gone with him.

Yahoo! #3 - This team was very good and had bad luck in the two playoff games (lost by 9 and 2). You couldn't really ask for a better receiving corps - Moss, Horn, Muhammad. Kevin Jones made up for Jamal Lewis late in the season. Brady was solid at QB, but I still tempted fate by playing Plummer sometimes.

Yahoo! #4 - Basically an up-and-down team. Pennington's injury forced me to use Plummer most of the season. I pretty much got screwed by Faulk (never drafting him again!). Joe Horn, Reggie Wayne, and Mark Clayton were big helps at WR.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. I was in 1st the last third of the season and really turned it into a runaway over the final month. Considering that Nomar and Prior were my top picks, this is a very impressive win. The rest of my infield was awesome with Teixeira, Blalock, Kent, and Rolen. My OF was not great but got average and SB from Ichiro! Pitching was excellent with Oswalt and Santana and Joe Table (40 saves).

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. I was very steady in 2nd place about 10 points behind the leader. There were no glaring weaknesses, but I could have used another strong starter down the stretch (Mulder sucked). WHIP is the only category where I wasn't near the top.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. Very similar to #1 except I reached 1st a little sooner and was further down early. I patched together a pitching staff with Zambrano being the only guy in double-digit wins. I made up for it by being 1st or 3rd in all the hitting categories.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. I kicked some butt in this league. I was ahead by close to 20 points and sometimes more over the entire second half. The starting pitching was truly amazing: Santana, Schilling, Oswalt, Zambrano. Hitters were excellent as well: Vlad, Rolen, Dunn, Soriano, Tejada.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #5 - Roster. Wow, my hitters were bad. I mean, B-A-D. I was last in 3 categories. Derek Lee was my second best hitter behind Rolen, and no one else even had 10 homers. The pitching was awesome, winning 4 of 5 categories. So hitting wins championships? Huh?

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #6 - Roster. This team was a solid 2nd, which is not a shame in the grand scheme of things. I got some great geriatric pitching from Maddux and Clemens. The hitting was ok, but I could have used someone better than Nomar with a high draft pick to give me a legit shot at the title.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #7 - Roster. This has to be the most competitive league I've seen. Five teams were within 3.5 points of 1st. I could have won with just 4 RBI, 4 runs, and 4 SB more than I had. BA and Saves were actually my only poor categories though.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #8 - Roster. No great teams in this one either. The co-champs had 84.5, which I believe is the lowest winning score I've seen. I had many decent hitters, but most of them killed my BA down into last place. Pitching was good, but I got killed in WHIP. Really just those 2 categories probably cost me 10 points.

Graphical Wrap-Up

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #1 (private, standard 9-category rotisserie, 90 games) - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. This league was competitive, with 6 of 9 coaches close to maxing out on games. I won rather handily in the end. It's somewhat amazing that I did so with Duncan as #1 overall. If I had taken Garnett (much better FT%), this would have been a total landslide. Peja was huge all-around, and I got good seasons out of J. O'Neal, RJ, Odom, and Nash.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #2 (private, standard 9-category rotisserie, 82 games) - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. I turned this around into a respectable finish after being ranked near the bottom for most of the season. The killer here was injuries. I got especially killed by Mashburn and Arenas (traded before he got hot). Ray Allen was good but also missed the beginning of the season. I got nice seasons out of Odom, Alston, Wade, and Hinrich. Too bad my non-Miami players weren't as good.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #3 (private, 8-category rotisserie w/o %'s, 100 games) - Roster. All-Star Break Standings. The commish here was a total cheater. He obviously played 2 teams and traded Duncan to a team that already had Garnett. He also locked me out with about 6 weeks to go. Even though he out-played me by 50 games, I still won by a decent margin because he got passed in alot of categories on the last day (I was 1 point back on the next-to-last day). I knew I should win this league from the start because it didn't use %'s, and I got Shaq then Kobe in the draft. Dalembert and Jim Jackson were nice pick-ups to help me in blocks and threes. I probably would have had near the max possible score without the cheater.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #4 (private, 8-category rotisserie, H2H, unlimited games) - All-Star Break Standings. This league really annoyed me. The commish switched from roto to H2H right before the draft. He refused to delete the league so that we could join the type of league we wanted. So I was stuck in a lame H2H league. The saving grace is that it had daily moves and unlimited games instead of a locked weekly lineup. That at least gave me something to do, and I used my Brute Force Approach for most of the season. I was in 1st or a close 2nd for most of the season. I had a good week against my competitor to finish the season and clinch 1st place. I consisently tanked 3's, but I was solid across the board and usually won 7-1 or 6-2. In the playoffs, I had a lame BYE in the 1st week and got stomped in my first game thanks to Brad Miller's injury and Shareef's lack of PT. I easily won the 3rd place game over another injury-riddled team.

MVP is the player who earned the most fantasy points for my team. Runner-up is second-highest earner.

Graphical Summaries.   Scoring Summary. - Except for #4, I got hot late in the season to clinch regular season titles and make the other a respectable 3rd. I was pretty mediocore early in the season, and it took me a while to pull things together. The two Championships are in large part due to Marshall Faulk's health.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #1 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. After an 0-3 start, I had two 5-game winning streaks to win the regular season. I kept it going with 2 more huge games, including a league-wide season-best score in the championship. Moss, Owens, and New England gave me stability at positions where I struggled in other leagues. It also allowed me to trade Boldin for Tony Gonzalez early in the season. Once Faulk got healthy, I was unstoppable. I even survived the bonehead draft pick of Rich Gannon thanks to Favre.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #2 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. This team was just so-so by my standards. I should have traded either Culpepper or McNair for a good WR. I was fortunate to get Steve Smith as a free agent but still had to use David Boston. Once I figured out Corey Dillon wasn't doing much, I got some decent games from Duckett and Barlow. Considering that I used 8 WR in a league that only had 2 starters, this is an ok result.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #3 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. After a 2-5 start, I ran the table all the way through the Playoffs in a very active league. I had major injury problems early, with Faulk and Edge out. I swung a big trade of Culpepper & Edge for Green, Sharpe, & Owens. Once Faulk got healthy, I used him with a Dunn/Duckett combo to give me an awesome lineup. I scored over 80 the last 7 weeks including playoffs. Impressive!

Yahoo Fantasy Football #4 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. This was easily my worst team. The biggest problems were Moulds & Price at WR (3rd & 4th draft picks). I was fortunate to pick up Rudi Johnson, which kept me respectable. I scored only 14 the final week of the regular season to push me into last in points. A few breaks helped me make the 8-team playoffs, where a 1st Round upset allowed me to finish 4th.

Graphical Wrap-Up - I thought I was heading for a decidely mediocre season, but I improved in almost every league over the final month thanks to some good pick-ups to help fill my innings. Clearly, pitching was a big problem this year though. I was 1st in hitting in 6 of 8, but had only 1 pitching championship. Fortunately, my hitting was so dominant that I still managed to win half my leagues.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 (Private, sabermetric 5x5) - Roster - All-Star break standings. I set up this league with OBP and Slug% insted of BA and HR just to give people a little variety. Obviously Bonds and Helton are huge under those settings, more so than with the regular settings. I got Beltran and Frank Thomas off waivers (or free agents, can't remember) early in the season. I picked up all my saves from free agents also. Those are the types of moves that will win a league.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 (Public, standard 5x5) - Roster - All-Star break standings. This team was extremely mediocore. Hank Blalock was the only player to really exceed expectations. I drafted guys like Adam Dunn (low BA, then injured), Shawn Green (bad year), Mark Buehrle (horrible 1st half), and Jose Hernandez (sucked at Coors!!). I was never even remotely in contention.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 (Private, standard 5x5) - Roster - All-Star break standings. This was a good win in a fairly active league. I made an all-time horrible trade of Juan Pierre for Pat Burrell because I knew I had enough SB (which was true) and thought Burrell would turn it around (never did). The guy who got Pierre ended up being about 5 points ahead of me for most of the 2nd half, and I knew that trade was the main reason. Fortunately, he slipped a little and I pulled it out. I made some awesome pickups of Carlos Lee, Frank Thomas, and Aubrey Huff. I also drafted Preston Wilson in the 9th round, which was huge. Again, none of my closers were draft picks.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 (Public, standard 5x5) - Roster - All-Star break standings. I made a good comeback in this league to make it respectable. It was looking similar to #2 with about 6 weeks left. Good draft picks of Mark Prior (6th round) and Preston Wilson (11th) help make up for guys like Burrell and Jose Hernandez. I had an obvious affinity for these 2 stiffs in the full season leagues for some reason.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #5 (Public, standard 5x5, mid-season) - Roster. I undoubtedly had one of the best infields possible (Pudge, Delgado, M. Young, Blalock, A-Rod). I didn't even need Eric Chavez or Renteria. OF was almost as good with P. Wilson, Berkman, and G. Anderson. But you aren't supposed to win leagues when your best pitcher is a closer, and your best starter is injured a large portion of the season (Oswalt). I got some good starts out of guys like Radke, Santana, and Hampton that I picked up as free agents. I am really shocked I pulled this one out.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #6 (Public, standard 5x5, mid-season) - Roster. This team was on the verge of being truly horrible. I trailed by over 40 points and was in 11th place with 6 weeks to go. I pulled just a little closer in points but vaulted to 4th in the standings fortunately. This team had a ton of little injuries that cost me, especially early -- Prior, Vlad, T. Nixon, Edmonds, Oswalt.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #7 (Public, standard 5x5, mid-season) - Roster. For the 2nd time ever, I dropped from 1st to 2nd on the last day of the season. I had some innings left and was tied in ERA, so I thought I would try to move up that half-point. Both my starters (Millwood, Wilson Alvarez) got totally rocked. I lost 1.5 points in ERA and ended up losing by 1. That over-shadows what was really an excellent team. I was 1st or 2nd in everything except WHIP (11th!!) & ERA (7th). Clearly, those 2 categories didn't just hurt me on the final day.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #8 (Public, standard 5x5, mid-season) - Roster. This was a Team For The Ages. I was ranked 288 overall out of what must have been something like 100,000 teams for the mid-season leagues. I had 110 points (out of a max 120) at times. Every position was solid, and the pitching was deep behind the superstars Prior and Hudson.

Graphical Wrap-Up - I am happy with the season, especially considering there wasn't a common break-out player that I had in all 4 leagues who could propel all my teams. I won the 2 leagues where I really had a huge advantage (#1 & #3). Leagues #2 & #4 were surprisingly similar except #4 just had a better competitor who beat me. I equaled or bettered all my predictions too, which is nice.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #1 (Private, Rotisserie, Unlimited games) - Roster. I call this the Brute Force Approach -- drop your mediocore players almost every day to maximize your games played and win the counting stats and just hope your percentages are ok. I pulled it off by finishing 1st in everything except blocks, while my percents were in the lower half of the league. I only deserve credit for persistence.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #2 (Public, Rotisserie) - Roster. I pulled this out late in the season, reaching first in Week 19. I was weak on free throws & 3's, but made up for it with good big men (Duncan, J. O'Neal, Abdur-Rahim). The best surprises were Michael Redd (top 3-pt threat), Chauncey Billups (also good for 3's) and Joe Johnson (late-season surge). I managed to survive the injury-plagued seasons of Grant Hill & Olowokandi.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #3 (Private, Fantasy points, Unlimited games) - Roster. Pretty much the same as Yahoo #1 except it used fantasy points. I made more transactions than the rest of the league combined (159 vs. 156, outplayed 2nd place team by 160 games) but only won by 1000 points (about 1%). Injuries were a killer for this team, with the guilty parties including Stackhouse, Donyell Marshall, Tyson Chandler, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, and Baron Davis. Aside from the stars, Michael Redd, Eddy Curry, and Jamal Crawford helped me stay in first place towards the end of the season.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #4 (Public, Rotisserie) - Roster. I only lost by 3 points, but the champ beat me by 9 points in the percentages. I was pretty dominant in the counting stats except 3's. I perhaps could have won the league because someone offered his players for trade when he wanted to quit. I only got Yao, Payton, and Ben Wallace. If I would have been more greedy, I could have probably won the league.

Graphical Summaries.   Scoring Summary. - Overall, it was a good year. My rank is points was better or equal to my rank in record, meaning I had 3 leagues where I could be considered unlucky. Only 2 leagues failed to meet my prediction. Only Yahoo #1 could be called a disappointment. Unfortunately, my worst overall week was #15, which cost me in the playoff standings.

Sandbox Full Contact Fantasy Football - Roster. Trophy. I dominated down the stretch, winning my final 7 and leading in scoring 4 of the last 5. I had the best score of any team the entire season during week 17 to give me the overall points title as well. My saviors were Clinton Portis (early-season free agent) and Steve McNair (I could avoid Culpepper).

CNN/Si Fantasy Football - Roster. Playoffs. I survived Faulk's late-season injuries with some big games from Lamar Gordon & William Green. I lacked a star QB (Griese & Collins) and a 2nd wide receiver (used Keyshawn almost all year). My division leader beat me by 3 games but only 34 points, setting me up with a tough playoff game as the wild-card.

CBS Sportsline Fantasy Football - Roster. Playoffs. I was in a weak division and also got lucky to have the 2nd-fewest points scored against me. This team still finished about where it should. There weren't any major problems, just minor things like Eddie George & Jimmy Smith being a little inconsistent.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #1 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. Every team remained active throughout the season. I had to win my final game to avoid finishing last in the regular season. Five of my seven losses were by single digits, and I probably could have won the league with a better receiving corps (Keyshawn & Torry Holt having down years).

Yahoo Fantasy Football #2 (private) - Roster. Playoffs. Another league with 100% activity. Most of my games were blowouts (wins & losses). This team had no weaknesses, and Deuce McAllister was probably the break-out player that put me over the top.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #3 (public) - Roster. Playoffs. Dominant team. This team was nearly 13-1. One loss was by 1 point, and only 3 wins were single digits. Deuce was the best draft surprise. I got Koren Robinson and Jerry Porter as free agents during the season.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #4 (public) - Roster. Playoffs. I led the league in scoring 6 times but somehow managed to finish only 3rd during the regular season. Except for a few games, Shaun Alexander & Rod Smith were disappointing. I was lucky to pick up Marvin Harrison off waivers when someone dropped his entire team, which helps make up for Smith.

Graphical Wrap-Up - Overall, I was disappointed with my season. I only had one championship. I finished 2nd in 3 leagues that I had a very good chance of winning. I did not put much time into my team until the middle of the summer, and it cost me. Next year I expect to have more free time.

Sandbox Full Count Fantasy Baseball (Fantasy Point) - Roster. Awesome pitching, mediocre hitting. Some better decisions could have won this. I never could find a good Catcher. I did not come close to using all my Outfield games due to injuries. Adam Dunn & Jimmy Rollins had horrible second-halves. I wasted Relief games for about 2 months with Keith Foulke. On the bright side, I had 2 of the 3 best closers in Gagne & Koch. My pitching was solid if unspectacular after Randy Johnson. I somehow managed to lose to a guy that lost about 200 points worth of pitching by not using all his games.

CNN/Si Fantasy Baseball (Fantasy Point, Head-to-Head) - Roster. I led the league in points, but I lost the championship round 347.7 to 347.3 because Brian Giles somehow ended up on my bench, leaving me one player short. I dominated Hitting by 500 points and only missed out in Pitching by about 50 points. There no big surprise hitters, but the huge years by Gagne, Lowe, and Mike Williams made me a truly dominant team. I led the league in points 11 of 26 weeks, meaning my record was only 5-10 when I did not lead the league. By contrast, the player with the best record went 15-7 when not leading the league. This makes the championship loss a little hard to swallow, but I've certainly learned my lesson.

CBS Sportsline Fantasy Baseball (Fantasy Point, Head-to-Head, Mid-Season) - Roster. Good team that got the results. First in points, first in record, first in playoffs. My hitters weren't dominant, but I had plenty of firepower (Helton, Nomar, Sosa). Pitching was outstanding (Unit, Halladay, Gagne, Guardado). I even got the bad end of a trade by giving up Lowe & Vidro for Glavine & R. Alomar.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 (Rotisserie, 21 total categories) - Roster. This is just sad. I lost to a player who did not even check his team after April. Only one other player even checked after May. This league just had too many statistics. I won the league if you look only at 5x5 statistics, but I lost because my hitters finished last in Errors, Strikeouts, and Triples. That's still not a good excuse for losing a 5-team league to a bunch of dead players.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 (Rotisserie Public, standard 5x5) - Roster. Not a very good team. I was closer to 10th than I was to 2nd. My pitchers were good, especially with nabbing Tim Hudson and Jarrod Washburn as Free Agents. My hitters were very poor. Only 2 regulars hit over .300 (Helton & Sweeney), and my power numbers were lacking as well.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 (Rotisserie, 21 total categories) - Roster. I had strong hitting (Nomar, Thome, Kent, Beltran, Burrell) and excellent relieving (Guardado, Gagne, Isringhausen), but I struggled to find quality starters after Mike Mussina. He was the only starter on my roster the entire season. I picked up good players like Ramon Ortiz & Damian Moss a little too late to capitalize on all their good starts. I also got hurt in some stupid categories like Singles, Batting K's, and Pitching Walks. I would have been 2nd in a 5x5 league.

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 (Rotisserie, 14 total categories) - Roster. This is pretty similar to Yahoo #3. Hitting not quite as good (Sosa, Nomar, Thome, Bagwell). Pitching better and more weighted to the starters (Halladay, Washburn, Nomo, Guardado). This league had 4 extra scoring categories, and they were reasonable. So I won't complain this time.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #1 - Roster. My team was very consistent except for finishing last in free throw percentage. I had one true superstar in Kevin Garnett and alot of good players. A second superstar probably would have put me in first place.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #2 - Roster. This league used fantasy points and had no game limit. Basically I won because I played the most games by a margin of about 60 over 2nd place. I get credit for persistence, but I don't consider this to be a great accomplishment.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #3 - Roster. I was never in real contention. Perhaps my biggest mistake was hanging on to Jordan the entire season. If I would have traded him for a star under 50 years old, I think I could have finished 2nd.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball #4 - Roster. Very similar team to Yahoo #3. Poor in free throw percentage, 3-pointers, and turnovers. Solid in the major counting stats (points, rebounds, assists). The break-out years of Jermaine O'Neal and Wally Szczerbiak were big positives, but the injuries to Chris Webber (early in the season) and Lamar Odom (never came back from injuries) probably cost me a run at the championship.

Sandbox Fantasy Football - This team had no weaknesses, but at the same time it lacked any superstars or break-out players. As a result, I was barely average.

CNN/Si Fantasy Football - This team was just average. The problem was, the site did not save the changes I made to my draft order. As a result, I got the default settings, which are horrible. If my rankings would have gotten through, I should have been one of the top 3 teams.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #1 - I was in 1st for most of the regular season, and I had a chance to finish first until I lost my final game. If I could have avoided a first-round upset, I possibly could have won the league since I had good games in the consolation rounds.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #2 - This team was solid in a very competitive league. The league champs were only 8-5-1, so I was only one-half game behind, along with 3 other teams. In all, 6 of 10 teams were in first or within one game. I feel like a typical year out of Eddie George would have won the league for me. I also lost Edgerrin James to injury.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #3 - I was 2nd in the regular season, but managed to win the playoffs. The keys to this team were the huge seasons for Terrell Owens and Ahman Green, along with another strong year from Donovan McNabb.

Yahoo Fantasy Football #4 - I won the regular season despite losing 2 of the last 4. In the playoffs, I lost the first round by only 4 points. Had I won, I would have easily won the championship because I outscored the champ by over 20 points in the championship week. This was a very good team that just had bad luck in the playoffs.

Sandbox Full Count Fantasy Baseball - I benefited from the surprising seasons of Carlos Beltran, Freddy Garcia, and John Burkett. However, it was off-set by down years from Troy Glaus, Edgardo Alfonzo, and Edgar Renteria. All around, this team was just ok..

CNN/Si Full Count Fantasy Baseball - I had great pitching with Mike Mussina, Javier Vazquez, and Barry Zito. My line-up was loaded with Sheffield, Sosa, Green, and Chipper Jones. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any break-out players that could have pushed me to the championship..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #1 (head-to-head, rotiserrie) - I finished 2nd in the regular season but made it pretty easily through the playoffs, including a 12-0 win in the championship game. Considering that the commish started the draft before I ranked my players, this is an impressive win..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #2 (private) - I was 3rd or 4th basically the entire season and never really contended. My pitching was respectable with Randy Johnson and Matt Morris. However, my hitting was mediocre except for Sammy Sosa and Juan Gonzalez. I also had to deal with injuries to J.D. Drew and Griffey..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #3 (private) - I setup this league with non-standard settings, so I knew going in what type of players to draft. As a result, I won handily even though it took me a long time to figure out McGwire and Damon were having bad years. Otherwise, this team was solid..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball #4 (public) - I could not find much pitching in this league except for Freddy Garcia. My next 2 starters were Pettite and Milton, who are solid if unspectacular. My hitting was excellent, with Helton, Guerrero, Giles, and Floyd. I guess that just goes to show that pitching wins championships, right? (Joke)

MLB.com Fantasy Baseball (head-to-head, fantasy point) - I finished second in my division, even though I led the league in scoring by about 10%. However, I made it through the playoffs to take the overall crown. This league was extremely dead, so anything less than first would have been a disappointment..

Sandbox Fantasy Basketball 2000-01 - I consider this win to be a nice accomplishment. It was a very active league by Sandbox standards. Plus, it would probably be easier to list the players on my team who weren't injured for at least a few games this season. The break-out years of Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion are what made this into a decisive victory. I was only in 2nd for a few days after the All-Star Break, and that was only because I budgeted my games more effectively than the other guy..

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball 2000-01 #1 (public) - This league was a nice comeback victory. A few players got out to a big lead because they wasted too many games early in the season. I started to narrow the gap during the last month and won by a decent margin. This was a good win..

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball 2000-01 #2 (private) - This team was just ok. I would have finished a little lower, but the Commish gave me some players to keep the league interesting. I had an outside shot at catching him, but it would have been a hollow victory anyway..

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball 2000-01 #3 (private) - This league essentially only had 2 teams, since only myself and one other owner took advantage of not having a game limit. I won somewhat handily because I evened out-played him by 50 games. I deserve some credit for being persistent, but that's about it..

Fox Sports Fantasy Basketball 2000-01 (mid-season, head-to-head) - How un-lucky was I? Let me count the ways.. 1. The league had 2 divisions. I had more points than everyone in the other division, but I was only 3rd in my own.. 2. I won my games by an average of 96 points but lost by an average of only 30. In other words, I didn't get big performances when I needed them.. The breaks just didn't go my way. Better luck next year..

Week-by-Week Graphical Wrap-Up - You can see how I rose from my mediocore start to peek at Week 13, then slightly slipped as the playoffs began..

Sandbox Fantasy Football 2000 - This league was true domination. Even though I only had a one game lead in the standings, I outscored the 2nd-best scoring team by nearly 200 and the 2nd-best team in record by over 350 points. Overall, I was ranked 2661 out of 663,886 entrants on Sandbox (99.6 percentile)..

CNN/Si Fantasy Football 2000 - After a slow start (2-2), I ran off 13 straight to close the season and easily have the best record (second place, 12-5). However, this win is slightly tainted. Some moron waived his entire team early in the season and apparently I was the only one to notice, so I got Eddie George and a couple other good players that slip my mind. I still think I would have won, considering my healthy leads in terms of points scored and record..

Yahoo Fantasy Football 2000 #1 - I basically sucked but used a late winning streak to make the consolation playoffs. I almost won the first round to set me up for the 5th/6th place game, and then I got dominated in the 7th/8th place game. My biggest problem was drafting Terrell Davis and Cade McNown, neither of whom did anything, even when healthy. In a 15-team league, having 2 highly-drafted dead-weights on your team puts you in the middle of the pack at best..

Yahoo Fantasy Football 2000 #2 - This league has 20 people, which led to alot of parity. Seven teams were either 8-4 or 7-5. I didn't really have any great players. My biggest mistake was making Cade McNown a high draft pick. With a better player, I probably could have gotten 2nd..

CBS Sportsline 2000 - I was definately the 2nd best team in the league, with a large margin in points over #3. Unfortunately, this league had 3 divisions and I was stuck with the clear #1, so I only got a wild card for the playoffs. I lost to the #1 in the first round and then just sucked it up in the 3rd place game..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball 2000 (Full-season) - This is truly unbelievable. Going into the final day of the season, I'm tied for 1st. My hitters do horribly on that day, as has become the custom the last 2 weeks of the season. Still, my pitching has come up big and I've clinched all the categories. Now, the situation is this.. Top of the 9th, John Rocker on the mound, Jeff Cirillo at bat, 2 outs. A grounder to Chipper Jones. E-5. Up comes Todd Helton, who happens to be on my opponent's team. Two men on base, 2 strikes. Homerun. Helton collects 3 RBI for my opponent, which pushes him one above me in the RBI category and on to the league championship. Absolutely unbelievable.. I was in first place for all but 3 days basically since the All-Star Break. Unfortunately, one of those days was the one that counts..

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball 2000 (Mid-season) - A pretty easy win. I had a nice lead with about 2 months to play, then some guy decided to drop out and I got 3 high-quality players via trade, which basically clinched the league for me..

CNN/Si Fantasy Baseball 2000 - I got some huge pitching performances from Kevin Brown, Bartolo Colon, and Tim Hudson in the final week to stretch out a 100 point victory. This was a very dead league, and I picked up players such as Todd Jones, Hoffman, Alfonseca, and Nomar off waivers early in the season. I also added Tim Hudson and Barry Zito for the stretch drive to help fill all my pitching games..

Sandbox Fantasy Baseball 2000 - This turned out to be a pretty easy win after a slow start..

Fox Sports Basketball 1999-2000 (Mid-Season) - Basically, I lost because I didn't realize this mid-season league allowed far more games than were remaining on the NBA schedule at the time the league started..
