I believe
Steps were a class act. Truly. Pete Waterman wanted
them to emulate ABBA, and they did a fine job doing
so, plus had a bit of character of their own. The
girls are beautiful, the guys act a bit like
dickheads, especially H, but that's okay. I have
their albums Steptacular and Buzz and
they are great. While their success was limited to
the UK,
they
deserved better really. Their covers of
Tragedy and Chain Reaction are great,
but they really shine in other songs like Deeper
Shade of Blue, Baby Don't Dance, and
Love's Got a Hold on My Heart. The ballads
Since You Took Your Love Away and
Paradise Lost are classic melodies. I
believe their main songwriting team are Topham and
Twigg, who are obviously very talented, but Cheiron
also did some work for them on It's The Way You
Make Me Feel, one of their best songs. Here are
