SHELTIES

The sheltie is a working dog class. He was bred to herd and protect sheep in the Shetland Isles with no human contact for months on end. Because of this the sheltie is reserved of strangers, but loves his owners. The Sheltie comes in three colors that is sable (from gold to a deep mahogany), the tri color (main color black with white and tan markings), and the blue merle( blue with black and white with tan markings on the legs and face). I have all three colors and have put photo’s of my dogs on this page for you.

The sheltie grows to 14in for the bitch (girls), 14 1/2in for the dogs (boys). The sheltie is very versatile where you can do obedience, show conformation, and a good pet for a family to an elderly person. They make very good watch dogs that they will bark when someone comes to the door, and not many people will attempt to come too close when a sheltie is on guard. The sheltie is easy to care for, he only needs a brush once a week and only bath when he is dirty as the coat is a double coat and if you wash too much you will take out the natural oil from the outer coat that repels dirt and rain.

If you want to find out about the sheltie contact your state controlling body for a list of breeders. Another good way to find breeders is to go to a dog show in your area e.g.: agricultural shows where they have a dog show. In Darwin most shows are advertised in the Saturday paper in the pets & livestock section.
