and Commission Schedule

Consigning Material for Upcoming Auctions

Please note that although non-members may bid in ASPP society auctions, only ASPP members can consign material.

ASPP is always looking for quality polar material for its society auctions. If you would like to consign material for upcoming auctions, the first step is to contact Dick Julian (contact information is below) with descriptions of what you would like to submit. Dick finalizes the lot descriptions for each auction, which are planned to run once every three months. Material and descriptions are then forwarded to Chris Jenner, who finalizes the auction catalog and lot number assignments.

Once the auction begins, consignors will receive a notice indicating the lot numbers of their material. At the close of the auction, another consignor notice is sent out, showing lot realizations, society commission, and proceeds due the consignor. All proceeds after commissions will be remitted to the consignors within five business days after the last winning bidder payment is received (generally within 30 calendar days of the auction closing date).

Some guidelines for submitting and describing material:

• Sort material as follows:
  • ARCTIC by country. Ships alphabetically, by date of cancel, followed by bases and cities, alphabetically, by date of cancel.
  • ANTARCTIC by country. Ships alphabetically, by date of cancel, followed by bases and cities, alphabetically, by date of cancel.

• Provide English translations of any cachets, cancels, annotations, or other markings that are in a language other than English.

• Include stamp catalog numbers and/or cancel/cachet varieties. Indicate which catalog is used.

• Again, contact Dick Julian with a summary of your material prior to shipping anything.

ASPP Society Auction Commission Schedule

The following commission schedule was established in June, 1999, for use in Auction 67 and beyond.

There shall be no buyer’s premium for ASPP members. Non-ASPP members may bid in society auctions; a 15% buyer’s premium will be added to the hammer price of lots for which the high bidder is a non-member. Shipping costs are borne by winning bidders.

The commission schedule is as follows. Commission is calculated after buyer’s premium is added. All proceeds after commissions will be remitted to the consignors within five business days after the last winning bidder payment is received (generally within 30 calendar days of the auction closing date). All proceeds from commissions, minus auction expenses, go to the society.
