Dalyan (Caunus)

We only spent a day in Dalyan, but there was much to see, although the town itself appeared rather quiet. Dalyan is situated on the river where the film of "The African Queen", was shot. The scenery is incredible. There are many boat trips along the river. They will take you to the mud bath, which will apparently make you look younger and cure you of all ails - that is if you actually get into the mud bath, or even close, as the odour is not particularly pleasant! The boat trips will also take you past ancient tombs built into the rock face, which are pretty incredible. Apparently men hung from the top of the cliffs to carve out these intricate tombs in the rock face. Further on along the river is 'Turtle Beach'. Famous in recent years due to David Bellamy's 'Save The Loggerhead Turtle' campaign. The beach is large and sandy, with only a few bars and restaurants, probably because it is only accessible by boat.
