Adriana Iosub

 

     One of the goals of Casa los Sefardim is to promote the arts which are such a strong part of the Sefardic culture. In this task we should look to the past, to our great teachers, philosophers, authors, and statesmen, however, we are not culturally stagnant. One of the primary challenges for the Sefardim today is to retain some connection with their culture within the larger Jewish millieu. To this effort, I would like to introduce you to Dr. Adriana Iosub of University of Bucharest English Department (Romania), where she is the only sefardia left. Readers will appreciate that her work spans the range from wimsical and romantic to passionately haunting. Enjoy!

 

WHAT SHALL I DO?

If I could see my the future,
I know what I want to see:
You and I standing together;
That it is meant to be.
I am ready to give you
All that should be given to

The emotions I feel,
When I think of your love
Are like pure relief,
In our ocean of love.
My soul can see from beyond
To find for us a true bond.

Your smile tells me,
My sadness will subside.
You offer me a chance at life.
Can I take it out of my mind?
Shall I risk it again
To lose the time we've spent?

I wish I knew what to say,
I wish I knew where to prey,
I wish I knew who to see
So, you could be with me.
What shall I do to be right
Not to lose the beloved you?

 

 

Out of the Blue

We've met out of the blue
And I haven't a clue
Why it happened to me
Suddenly out of the blue?

We imagine we have previously seen each other
Each suddenly wanting the other to be as lover.
But the unseen and the untouched
In reality seem rather too much.

 

 

Moments

There are moments
When I feel so empty.
There are moments
When filld with emotions
My words seem empty.

There are moments,
When I am breathing,
But I am not living.
I'm filled with regrets
Of my losing you.

You left me so fast, Leaving behind memories.
I was left with dreams,
My dreams of loving you
But I lost you.
