Welcome
to the gateway to all of Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom! Main Street
reflects the early 1900s with quaint shops and restaurants and a
couple of attractions. Note: Main Street remains open one hour
after scheduled closing time for the Park.
Attractions
The Disneyland Railroad
At the entrance to the
Park, these real steam engines will take you on a trip around the
Kingdom, with stops in New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown and
Tomorrowland. It's a nice relaxing trip, and for some added
entertainment, between Tomorrowland and Main Street stations the
train passes trhough the Grand Canyon and Primeval World
dioramas. The Grand Canyon diorama depicts the Grand Canyon,
complete with mountain lions, and the Primeval World shows Audio
Animatronic dinosaurs and some lava. Also, between New Orleans
Square and Mickey's Toontown stations the train passes through
Splash Mountain and the finale scene can be viewed from the
train.
USUAL WAIT: 5 minutes at peak times
The Walt Disney Story
featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
One of the hidden gems of
Main Street lies in the Opera House on Town Square. You enter and
see an exhibit and some films on the life of Walt Disney, and
then enter the theater to see Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, a
presentation that shows film clips and an incredibly lifelike
Abraham Lincoln Audio Animatronic who performs great quips from
his famous speeches. Little kids will be bored out of their
minds, but it is a great experience and it can be fun. Also, on
the way out be sure to check out the Fifth Freedom mural.
USUAL WAIT: None.
Main Street Vehicles
presented by National
Car Rental
A quick and fun means of getting from Town Square to Central
Plaza. You can pick from an Omnibus (sit with the driver),
Horse-drawn streetcars, fire engines and horseless carriages also
transport guests to Sleeping Beauty Castle. One way
transportation only.
USUAL WAIT: None.
Main Street Cinema
This quaint little movie
theater shows six different classic Mickey Mouse cartoons (all
early). Steamboat Willie, Plane Crazy and others are constantly
playing here. It's air conditioned and provides a way to escape
the summer heat.
USUAL WAIT: None.
Shops
20th Century Music
Company
This new shop features
tons of CDs and videos, plus The Disneyland Foever kiosks make
their second home here. It's very nice and well stocked.
Candy Palace & Candy
Kitchen
This is the best place in
all of Disneyland to satisfy your sweet tooth. Every confection
imaginable is available for your taste inspection (of course, you
have to pay them first).
China Closet
Currently the China Closet
is an enchanting Christmas shop with many holiday goodies. No
word on what will become of it after January 2.
Crystal Arts
Beautiful glassware and
remarkable jewelry are available here. On site glassblowers make
stunningly gorgeous, and VERY expensive glassware. It's very nice
just to stroll through and wish you could buy it all.
The Disneyana Shop
The collector's dream! Art
Classics, E-Ticket Magazines, coffetable books, sculptures and
all the stuff you wish you could buy without being evicted is
available here. My second favorite shop in the park, besides The
Disney Gallery in New Orleans Square.
Emporium
The largest shop in
Disneydom stocks every item of Disneyland merchandise available,
and the store is HUGE. Be sure to check out the window displays
based on the latest Disney animated instant-masterpiece.
Main Street Magic Shop
This little boutique
stocks great magic items, some nifty tricks, and the cast members
are always on hand to teach you a new illusion. Very
entertaining.
Main Street Photo Supply
Co.
presented by Kodak
Forgot film? Forgot the camera? Here's the
place to get all your camera needs. And during the day, if you
got your picture taken by a cast member who handed you a card
with any of the Princesses, Mickey (at his house) or Pooh (in
Critter Country), here's the place to pick those photos up.
New Century Timepieces
Think watch and clock
emporium. There are trons of beautiful watches and clocks
available here, and lots of spiffy stuff. After going to all
these shops, I'd hate to be next to you when you open your credit
card bill.
Newsstand
This small souvenir stand
is half inside the Park, half out. It's for those who forgot that
one thing and they didn't get their hand stamped. Cast members
will fetch your item and bring it to you. Also it serves as the
final place to buy that Mickey Mouse glow wand.
Penny Arcade
Now more candy shop than
arcade, here you can spend your pennies and quarters on old
fashioned video (uh...video?) games and the like.
Silhouette Studio
For a price you can get
your likeness put into a silhouette by a Disney artist. It's a
great keepsake and it's a lot of fun.
The Mad Hatter
Almost the same as its
Fantasyland counterpart, this is the best place to buy the really
cool yet ultra expensive Disney headgear. Adjacent to the Opera
House.
Restaurants
Blue Ribbon Bakery
hosted by Nestle Toll
House
This charming little patisserie serves up
excellent coffee and scrumptious pastries and cookies. This is my
favorite place in the Park to eat breakfast. It's great!! $
Gibson Girl Ice Cream
Parlor
hosted by Nestle Ice
Cream
Another charming eatery, this is one of the
places to get great ice cream. Sundaes cones and the like are all
available and are all very good. $
Main Street Cone Shop
hosted by Nestle Ice
Cream
Yet another ice cream shop. $
Plaza Inn
hosted by Columbian
Coffee Growers
Recently renovated (it's gorgeous), this
restaurant is wonderful and has fantastic food. It's sort of set
up like Redd Rockett's in Tomorrowland, but unlike the Pizza
Port, the Plaza Inn also hosts a cute character breakfast
starring Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. The food is always
great, and the reatuarnt serves breakfast until 10:30am, and then
they commence lunch near noon, and dinner around four. $$
Coca-Cola Refreshment
Corner
hosted by Coca-Cola
This small counter service place serves
snacks and big Cokes. Be sure to sit on the patio and listen to
Rod Miller play the piano....he's fantastic! $
