The Geophysic
Observatory
At the Danish Meteorological Institute in Qaanaaq -
called the Geophysic Observatory - a lot of different measurements
are made for scientific purposes. Common meteorological measurements
like temperature, wind, humidity, air pressure and rain are continuously recorded.

At the Observatory
there are different measurements made on "space weather" like solar wind and reflection of radiowawes in the ionosphere, and sometimes the strong and dense magnetic fields, especially near the pole. Knowledge about these factors is
important for improving and understanding electronic communications in the
arctic. In winter the northern lights are photographed, and in the light
half of the year sun energy is measured.
