Vixen's Story
We adopted Vixen (and Gus) from our vet's
office in early December 2000. She and a half dozen other kittens of
varying ages had been left in two boxes at the back door, all with their
whiskers cut off. Jeff likes both calico and mincemeat cats and Vixen is a
mixture of both; she's even got some Tabby stripes here and there! Part of
her unique beauty is that she is a mix of nearly every cat color pattern
imaginable! She got her name not because she's a tempting seductress but
because she was adopted at Christmas time and we wanted her to have a "christmasy" name.
Vixen's Personality
Vixen has a very laid-back demeanor. She spends most of
her time sleeping and bathing and goes outside only for short periods of time.
Rather than bringing back mice and birds from her hunting forays she instead
captures small garder snakes and bugs. Despite the rather large field next
to our house (now, unfortunately, under development as the newest phase of our
subdivision) Vixie never wanders far on her outdoor adventures. She
usually goes outside a couple times a day for about half an hour each time.
Indoors, she's not adverse to laying on her
back for a tummy rub and will usually include your hands and arms in her bathing
activities if they're within licking distance.
In-Home Noise Monitor: Vixen
does not like loud noises including loud voices. If we yell upstairs at
the boys to get ready for bed (for example) she will get up from wherever she's
been relaxing and immediately start meowing and making her way over to the
offending yeller. If she feels that her meowing is not a strong enough
reminder of the household noise guidelines she may reach out and tap you a few
times to get your attention and subsequent compliance.
