Changeling
The freehold was quiet, the play of light through the water rippled across the walls. Within, a Selkie sat alone, speaking to the chimerical companion which rested in a pouch of water by her side; a tiny chimerical whale listened, its attention hanging on every word...
I was content and enjoying life in Hudson Bay, but one day I noticed all of this garbage. It was on the sea floor and floating in the water. I began to worry that we would soon run out of clean water to swim in and live in. The more I worried the more I began to remember; I hadn't always been a seal. I used to be a very well off university student. One day this lady had "loaned" me her wetsuit to go swiming, and I had enjoyed the relaxing life of a seal so much I had decided not to come out. Now, the thought of the water getting more and more filled with trash made me quite angry. Realising that there isn't very much that I could do as a seal I decided to try to find my mortal family once more.
My parents were so pleased to see that I had returned home after being gone for almost a year that they didn't mind what I did as long as I was happy. Something in the back of my head told me that I shouldn't tell them what had happend so I simply told them that I was under too much stress, and had decided to get away for a while. I changed from my law degree to marine biology and stuff like that. My parents even gave me money to put into various projects (they never asked what it was, but it was for things like Green Peace and the like). I bought myself another wet suit for "regular" swiming and started taking scuba diving lessons. I quickly excelled in these and eventually got my instructor's license.
One weekend, I had told my parents that I was going camping, but actually I had returned to the sea for a while. I was swiming along with one of my friends when a fishing trawler came along. I could see it but he couldn't. I tried to warn him but it was too late, he was sucked into the motor. The sight was disgustingly horrible, but I couldn't draw my eyes away. I left the water and returned home. I was so traumatized that the sight of what I had seen plagued me every time I closed my eyes. I had to leave there.
Late at night, while my parents were asleep I packed up everything that was of any value to me, emptied my mother's purse of a charge card and $150 cash, took my parents BMW and drove to the train station. I bought a one way ticket to the east coast. I had heard alot about Halifax, and that's were I ended up.
There aren't very many other Changlings here, and so far I haven't found any other Selkies, so I guess life will be rather peaceful here, and I should be able to clean these waters. Thanks for listening to me FISH. Well, I had better get back to what I was doing.
