Good day to you all fine Edel owners. It is sure nice to see all the traffic on the site. Well done people and keep up the good work. I have a little bit of information that might be of interest to some of us. Since I can easily speak french, (with a name like mine, what can you expect) I decided to contact a few people in France. Through e-mail, I ended up touching base Mr Philippe De Troy. I was please to see that he was familiar with the Edel site and was quite happy to hear from people over the big pon . I even noticed that he left a note on the Edel site, that's great. I found that even the French thinks quite highly of the little boat. Someone even called the Edel the "2 CV of the seas) They were found to be responsive and lively, easy to single hand and cheap to maintain. The going price for an average unit is around 1,000.00 FF and don't ask me what that is in CDN terms. I am trying to get in touch with two independant magasine which sailed test them. I will let you know if it works out. I also found some pictures on a couple of the sites. Here is the adress: www.cit web.net/voilevdh/edel11.htm. www.starmax.it/barca If you look at some of the pictures, you can actually see small differences. We are still enjoying out little boat a lot and are running out of space fast (our four kids are not getting smaller and getting "bored" much faster) and we are still looking at ossibly trading up for an 665 one of those days. Anyone wanting to trade down? If the 665 is as much fun as the 540. I don't see why anyone would want to let them go. That's about it for now, have a Merry Christmas you all and keep in touch.

Thanks for doing a page on the Edel my 540 is a great sailing boat. Have enduro painted the hull off white with burgundy water line and cove line and people think she is new. It would be great to arrange a weekend regatta and depending on whether their are more boats in ontarion or west we could hold it in either location. This is something worth doi g for next summer ?

I have started racing Caprice on Lake Nipissing at the North Bay Yacht Club. Hope to share what I learn about "tweeking" the bo t with other owners and learn from them as well. There is also another Edel 820 in North Bay and I will let the owner know about this site! So long for now.

I'm quite surprised to find Edel sailboats in Canada...Even more surprised to read about a 820 I never heard of, although I think I saw one last summer in Lynaes Havn (Danmark). I bought an EdelIV made in 1974 six years ago and I'm having a lot of pleasure sailing on her in the summer with my family. We are used to towed her on the trailer from France to Greece (or north to Denmark) I do have the original leaflet from 1974 and quite a lot of photos. It will be a pleasure to send a few scans if you're interested. Keep on with the site, it's great and unique...

This is an excellent site which has the potential to help many Edel sailors. I have owned Emerillon for 14 years and have cruised Lakes Erie, St. Clair, Huron and Georgian Bay. Most of the time I single hand the boat. The boat is a delight to sail on any oint of sail and in almost all conditions. It is fast for a boat with a waterline length of less than 23' and has excellent storage and accommodation. Everything about the boat design and hardware is first class. I Had to rebuild the spines on my folding prop two years ago. The Volvo diesel is very hard to start but is smooth and provides ample power for cruising. I will have an Edel 665 for sale next month if anyone is interested please email me.

Hi: My mother in law owns YachtServices and distributes Lee Sails (cruising sails) and sailing runs in our blood. My husband and I are very intrigued by the Edel 665 and have a cottage in the Thornbury Ontario area. We have been scouting and have seen 2 bea tiful 665's in the harbour. We have left our card with both boats in hopes of hearing from the owners. We've also seen one in the Godrich harbour. Perhaps you can reach them through their local Yacht Clubs. We have enjoyed your newsletter and look forward to your next one! Sue

Hello again. I thought you'all might enjoy an excerpt from my sailing journal regarding a small segment of a three day cruise that a friend and I took on my 540 a week ago: "Last night we anchored in Commando Bay on Okanagan Lake, an area used in WWII for military training due to the steep and rugged terrain. It's a nice little bay sheltered from the warm south breeze that was blowing that evening. By ten PM all was quiet. By eleven, well after dark, a strong nor'wester was funneling right into the bay. The chop turned to waves, the waves to bigger waves and soon we were airborne and the hull was slamming down onto the surf. I tried to brave it out and maybe sleep. Ha ha. My limbs wer being thrown out of the berth, it was like riding a horse! (note to self: install berth-cinch) We were moored to a secure buoy so I wasn't worried, but it was way too rough to get any rest. Gordon Lightfoot's "The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound, as the waves turned the minutes to hours..." kept coming to mind. So at midnight, I woke my crew (yes he was sleeping through all this) and told him to get ready for an adventure. We raised the main and sailed out onto Lake Okanagan. We were rewarded for our intrepidness by seeing the spectacular Milky Way poured across the sky, shooting stars, and flashes from a lightning storm over the eastern mountains. Because this part of the lake runs almost north and south in a valley, it is rare to have an east or a west wind. Last night though, we were treated to a good one out of the west. So, flying just the main sail on a beam reach, we rocketed down the lake (top speed: 6.5knots) to arrive at the yacht club at about two AM. After we were settled in again, my friend asked, "How am I going to get any rest now that things are so still?" I gave him a cuff and sent him to his berth without any (more) grog. Fun!" Thanks for tuning in, I hope you are having a great summer too!

My first sail boat was a 540 (Jasmin) purchased new so long ago. Naima was made in 1981 and purchased and launched new in 1982. The demands of two young children prevented launch one summer and delayed launch until August of another one or two. We put it p for sale at least once but never really wanted to sell. If you see a white (original colour) 665 on the water say "Hi".

Hi fellow Edel owners. Deb & I bought our 540 in 97, it's our first sailboat I knew little Deb knew even less about how to sail. What a great boat to start with, our learning curve has been steep, but the more we learn the more we like the Edel. The first year we just cleaned nd waxed the hull it was oxidized quite bad. The hull looked good for a bit but did not last, the bottom was also very blistered{I hate when that happens} so last spring after re-building her trailer we parked Soitenly in the drive way and proceded to pis our neighbors off by sanding, filling, sanding, painting, sanding,& more painting the entire hull. It was worth it she goes a lot faster and looks good to. Our boat has most of the options except the main sheet travller, last summer we even had the spinn ker up a few times. I built a new cabin door with two small windows and a new curved tiller. This year just clean and launch. It's real nice to find your site as info on the Edels is hard to come by thanks I'll visit often. Russ&Deb aboard Soitenly

Very happy to have found your site. We are the proud owner of an excellent 540 (with trailer) and just loving it. The boat was purchased in 97 and we have mostly done some day sailing with it so far. We are, however, planning some longer expedition in the future. It is a little hard to fit all of us in it for any long amout of time (we have four kids). Bagatelle is a sure footed, stable boat and surprisely fast for its size. I am considering doing some upgrade to it so that I could be single handle from th cockpit. I am also looking at the possibility of fitting it with a dodger and a boom tent. The hull color is faded as for so many other Edel but the gell coat is in prestine condition. The boat did not stay in the (fresh) water for any long period of ti e in the past and was used very little for the last 16 years. We are keeping our eye open for a 665 but it is not a high priority at this time (we could definitely use some extra space). Thanks again for the great work on the site and keep up the good wor .

Just married, My wife,Kira, and I went for our first cruise and she loved it. I have cruised/raced the Wanabe for about years now and have enjoyed every minute. If you happen to have any advise to repainting my boat-outdoors, I would appreciate the help, and oh yeah the gel-coat has been scratched where she had some bumps with the dock. While I am at it I would also like o ask you about another problem: the fenders that I WAS using seemed to have rubbed onto the paint into a sticky mess that can't be removed with comercial cleaners-I've tried-and this problem has led me to thinking about repainting.

Thanks for the History of the boat, can you provide me with the going sale price of my size boat. I'am thinking of trading up to a 50 foot 1961 gas boat. I have a back problem - my wife recommened I purchase a houseboat. I found in the papers an 46' edel sailboat for $225.000.00
