In this part of the website we will decribe all the Fishing Tackle you will need starting with Rod,Reel and line.
Tackle
Fly rods are marked with numbers to indicate the size of line recomended by the manufacturer. Modern Fly rods are made out of Carbon and Glass fibre. My favourite rod is a 9 foot #7/8. So my rod can take a size #7/8 line. The higher the line rating the thicker the fly line is.
The function of the fly reel is to store your fly line and the backing into a convienient package. You do not use it for casting like in course fishing but for storing. Many fly fishers prefer to play the fish on the line by pulling it rather than using the reel.
When choosing your fly line you have floating, sinktip, slow sinking, fast sinking and lead core to choose between ask your tackle dealer which one is best but I would sugest a Floating line because it is easier for the begginer to work with.
Once you have disided which floating style you want ask your tackle dealer which taper of fly line you want. (I will update this site soon and include information on tapers.)
Used to increase the volume of line on the real. If you hook a powerfull fish it sometime's strips you down to the backing. Your tackle dealer should be able to show you how to load a reel Ready for fishing or even do it for you.
Used to sink the leader under the surface so that it is not as visible to the fish.
Used to get the fish from the edge of the water on to the bank.
Used for cutting leaders.
