Builder:
Cosworth Engineering with Ford casting assistance (Cylinder block).
Type:
Late 1974 Group 2 Capri race motor.
Layout:
Front-mounted 6-cylinders in 60 degree V.
Aluminium cylinders heads with DOHC each bank and four-valves per cylinder.
Also in LM 25WP aluminium cast:
inlet and injectors, cam carriers; timing cover/water & oil pump;
'FORD' embossed cam covers; sump pan; ignition pick-up, etc.
Four Vandervell VP2C main bearings, cross-drilled race crank,
steel rods, Cosworth pistons, flat top alloy.
Valves & operation:
37.18mm inlets, 32.05mm exhausts. Actuated via OHC &bucket tappets; one crank-driven cam toothed-belt per bank.
Injection:
Lucas mechanical with electrical 160psi high pressure pump, Lucas metering unit, butter-fly throttles, indirect injection.
Electrics:
Motorcraft AG 403/14mm plugs; 12v neg earth; 17AC/40ah Lucas alternator; RITA transistorised ignition and rpm limiter. Bosch alternative starter and alternator.
Lubrication:
Dry sump, twin rotor pump for sump scavenge; external head drainage; single rotro Hoburn Eaton pressure pump, blow-off set @ 80psi.
Dimensions:
Bore, 100mm; Stroke, 72.42mm; Capacity, 3412.5cc; Compression, 12:1; Weight, 175kg.
Performance:
Circa 440bhp @ 85000rpm; 280lb.ft @ 7000rpm. Max rpm, circa 9000; 129bhp per litre. Consumption, circa 95 litres per racing hour.
